They Laugh
They laugh
At I show spend my days
In printed worlds of ink
They sneer
At one who sees the world through words
And dares to think
They watch
And wonder puzzling
At where I find my joys
They turn
Aside and whisper low
Of follies, fools, and noise
They see
With eyes that never saw
A knight and dragon fight
They hear
With ears that cannot hear
The fairy bells at night
They walk
Away and turn their backs
On what they will not know
They close
Their eyes to all they cannot
Understand and go
They run
And flee from all the truths
That hunt them night and day
They hide
In shallow modern thought
And turn the truth away
They weep
For that they know not what
And will not dare to find
They fear
The light that drives their hiding
Shadows out of mind
They laugh
To shield their open wounds
When mine are healed and closed
They sneer
To cover up the scars
That they would leave unknown
