I just realized something that could make or break my novel.

How do you create a set of space armor that protects, not only a humanoid body, but a tail from vacuum? In what way(s) might it attach to the main part of the suit? Or if that isn't feasible, how about tucking the tail inside?

So you know, the plot centers around a conflict between otters and badgers. (I'm guessing the latter species wouldn't have as much of a problem.)

Not to get too technical, but an otter could tuck its tail up its own butt.

I'd assume that the the best way to do it would be for the otter to tuck its tail in. I don't know tons about armour, but I'd imagine that having something that flails around behind him would add to drag or something? Make it clumsier and harder to maneuver. It'd be heavier too, and heavier in an awkward position.

Yeah, I'd agree. Just allowing some extra room down one of the legs would probably resolve the issue.

On a side note, science fiction involving otter and badger astronauts is something I'm glad somebody is writing.

I don't know about otters and badgers, but things with tails usually have a practical purpose for them, and often they contribute to balance. Tucking them inside might make them uncomfortable and unbalanced, which wouldn't be great for mobility.

A design similar to the style of Donphan's trunk (from pokemon) might work.
