Roleplay: [RP Blitz] Canaries in an Amber Mine
Nickname: Monte
b]Name: Montgomery "Monte" Sterling
Age: 24
Gender/Pronouns: Male, he/him
Magic: None
Role: Amber Miner
Appearance: Monte is a tall man of 6'2" with a thin, almost willowy build and sharp yet friendly looking features that form a soft and composed expression with a gentle smile most of the time. He has pale skin from working a lot in the mines although it is unscarred and unblemished as his work is light and consists mainly of keeping ledgers and logs instead of actually mining. His eyes are a light stormy silver color, a namesake trait of the Sterling family, and his hair is long and dark, kept nicely brushed so that the straight strands look akin to black silk and tied back in a low ponytail with a red or blue ribbon to keep it out of his face. His hair is one thing he prides himself on and so he likes to make it look its best. His clothes somewhat rich, like that of the upper class but only the lowest rank. His usual outfit consists of pants with tall boots, a longsleeve shirt occassionally adorned with ruffles at the front, a fur lined cape or coat to keep him from getting cold, and a hat with one side of the brim pinned up with a warm mother of pearl brooch. These garments are usually dark to prevent any stains to them and catch any slacking miners. However, he likes to give them a fair warning by wearing plenty of jewelry which consists of a mix of gold and silver. The two most important pieces to him are the two with fine quality blue amber which are considered, particularly by his father, as his piece to the company share. One is a necklace composed of a simple gold chain and a large circular gold pendant with a large circular piece of blue amber in the center. The other is a silver ring with a piece of blue amber in it.
Personality: Monte is a gentle soul with an eye for beauty and a mind for careful calculation and arithmetic. He takes pride in his appearance but is not boastful about it and takes it upon himself to look nice for his own satisfaction and to make a good impression of others. He is a bit of a people pleaser at times and it takes a lot for him to choose his own path for purely his own means. While he prefers not to get his hands dirty and likes to stick to calculation, ledgers, and mathematics, once he does put his mind to something and get over pleasing others, he can be a bit stubborn and put his all into whatever work will get him where he wants to be. However, his is very rare. Often, he finds himself doing what he can to help or benefit others, keeping a conscious reminder not to jeoperdize himself and his own ambitions in the process. He is kind to those around him and rarely gets angry, going so far as to not report slacking amber miners if they show clear signs of exhaustion. In fact, many miners prefer him as a supervisor due to this. He does his best to be as far from his father as he can be and when given a choice, will always choose the kinder option.
Alliance: He sides with the loyalists although not as absolutely as most and thinks Eider Isle should stay dependent for fear of financial collapse and the icy doom of the looming apocalypse. However secretly, his whole heart is not devoted to the faction he presents and is likely to be swayed towards the Izhali or Skeptics as well as the idea of an independent Eider Isle once he discovers the truth.
Occupation: Amber Mine Supervisor/Accountant
Brief History: Born and raised on Eider Isle, Monte grew up with his hands in the amber mining industry before he could even walk. With his life cushioned by the money from the amber mining industry, Monte was given a good education, his parents bringing in a scholar from Ebony to teach him, and always had what he needed to be a content and happy child, if a little spoilt. He took after his father as he grew older and was taught mathematics important to accounting so that he could take a position in the family's share of the amber mining industry. However, as he grew older and tensions continued to rise between Eider Isle and the rest of Blitzia, the amount of commandeered ships carrying blue amber also rose. He began to grow a hatred for the corsairs of Eider Isle, again following in his fathers footsteps. When he was freshly eighteen and ready to take his position in the company, his father took him to the gallows to observe an execution of a few corsairs that had been caught stealing blue amber from their very company. Upon this sight, the opposite happened then what his father expected. Instead of earning a sense of justice, Monte had seen how terrified the corsairs had been before their death and how they looked at himself and his father with a particular hatred and fear and so his heart softened towards them. Growing up he had seen them as pests to be dealt with but after the execution, he came to see that they were as human as he was. He was also enlightened to see the darker side his father hid and was trying to convince him to embrace as well with the temptation of a larger position in the company then previously bargained. Monte chose to stay in his accounting and supervising position and refused to witness any more executions from that day forward. He intends to keep his promise of that intention and will not budge on the subject if brought up.
Other[/b\]: His favorite meal is a nice warm bowl of clam chowder.
