Master Leiytning, The Heretic

Return to The Plague of Lumeaux
Creator: NPC
Roleplay: The Plague of Lumeaux
Nickname: Leiytning
**WARNING: Leiytning's backstory has some minor-to-moderate TFR spoilers in it.
Gender: Male
Age: Approx. 48 (in demon years)
Race: Zyrean Demon
Skills and Affinities: Leiytning is an ancient warrior with incredible skill. Corelia herself, his only known rival, has described him as: "A battle beast. One that moves like light, disappears like a ghost, and delivers a strike stronger than thunder is loud. He doesn't feel pain, and he never sleeps." Quick, agile, and stealthy, he lacks any capacity for physical pain, and thus can push his body several times beyond its natural power, allowing for feats of inhuman strength. As a bonus, he possesses black magic, specifically electricity.
Beyond just his prowess on the battlefield, Leiytning is a wise demon that has reasoned his way out of many ill-fated situations, despite the animosity toward demons—especially himself. He is versed in many languages, including obscure ones like Gargoyle.
Weapons and/or Equipment: Leiytning always carries his two trademark weapons—a jagged, pale-gold spear that responds to his magic, and his silver ritualistic dagger.
Appearance: Leiytning is a man with a muscular build, and stands 6'1. Coresponding to his Zyrean heritage, he has pointed animalian ears (heavily chipped and scarred), sharp teeth with large canines, talon-shaped feet, and a dust-gray complexion. His hair is raven-black with graying roots, falling down to his lower-back and covering the right side of his face. His skin is ravaged by scars, including faded burns, deep punctures in either wrist and in a ring around the neck, and a slit across the bridge of his nose.
Zyreans (and demons at large) tend not to wear armor, since they are naturally more resilient than mortals and even most semi-mortals. Instead, Leiytning tends to wear conservative attire with a black, charcoal-gray, and very dark crimson color palette. Plus the necessary belts and sheaths for his weapons.
Personality: Leiytning is...complicated. And certainly not known for his friendliness or hospitality. His tone is blunt, his expression ever-flat, and good luck provoking any sort of emotion that isn't annoyance. However, as mentioned, he is wise and would rather take the route of least resistance, whether that sentiment comes from a place of mercy or manipulation. He has a dry sense of humor you may catch every now and again, and toward his siblings (especially his twin sister, Thundur) he is certainly more forgiving and always prioritizes their safety, even if his most desired goal is standing right in front of him. With outsiders, especially known hostiles like Aubades, he is extremely wary and bitter, and is more likely to use them for bait. However, the more you prove yourself, the more he can work with you.
Backstory: Nowadays, the demon king's backstory is obscured and largely forgotten, but this is what we know:
He and his twin sister, Thundur, were the firstborn Regis (royals) of the prior Zyrean leader, when their kingdom, Demona Haven, still stood strong. From a young age, Leiytning displayed three core qualities that would define his fate; a stone-faced recognition of their leader's cruelty, an inherent scepticism of authority, and a prodigal sense of weapon arts. On a more pleasant note, he was also known for being the only sort of guardian and "parent" to his six siblings, a role that—despite many divides from forces beyond their control—he retains even in the present day. The full cast of trainers responsible for turning Leiytning into such a lethal weapon is not known, but their work was certainly not in vain.
That said, his role went far beyond a warrior. With help from the previous spirit-walker (who would also become his wife in later years), he was able to influence the territory. Enough to earn a title for himself—not as a champion for his corrupt leader/father, but as a challenger, exactly as he liked it. And thus, he spent much of his early life not as a mere extension of Zyrean leadership, but a counterforce, taming more dangerous orders and encouraging de-escalation, especially with foreign entities. He was a charismatic prince beloved by many in their kingdom, especially his family (minus Shadow Star, obviously).
Unfortunately, after a massive attack on the territory, Leiytning suffered a long period of deeply painful, tragic, and downright traumatizing horrors. Ones that broke him down physically, mentally, and spiritually, dealing damage beyond repair and even awakening a wickedness that plagues him to this day. Worse yet, it was after this all happened that his wife—the one who liberated him—was killed. Shadow Star exploited the chaos to turn the territory against him, assume full control, and doom the already-damaged population to their fate in the Extinction Battle.
After that terrible battle, the Sybilian army was severely damaged, but the Zyreans got it worse. Leiytning and his six siblings were the sole survivors, and their kingdom was left in ruins. Despite the travesty, this now-tiny tribe, with no kingdom to their name, has not backed down from their goal yet. That goal: to slaughter all of Sybilius's royal family, and any sylph that dare get in the way.
Other: His name is pronounced "lightning," it is spelled wrong on account of demons not knowing written Northern, thus guessing how the word is spelled (while using a whole other alphabet). Plus, behind the scenes, aesthetic and reading purposes.
