Vivian Nyght

Return to Olympus Has Fallen

Creator: Ravena
Roleplay: Olympus Has Fallen
Nickname: Vi, Viv, Vinny, Ian, whatever

Name: Vivian Nyght

Age: 22

Gender/Pronouns: Male, he/him

Godly Parent: Hypnos

Appearance: Vivian is a man with a relatively short stature, just scraping 5'8, with a narrow build and soft features. He has a warm fawn-hued skin tone, and gray-blue eyes—which seem to gain a purpley sheen whenever stepping outside of the human realm. His hair is deep black, falling just below his shoulders with a heavily-layered texture.

Vivian's "default" clothes include a desaturated purple flannel (sleeves rolled back), a low-cut black V-neck, and dark gray denim shorts. Accessories include a few silver necklaces, bracelets, rings, and an anklet with a silver poppy. The shoes are black leather opera pumps with moderate heels, a faint snakeskin-like texture, and silver buckles along the back.

Personality: Vivian is a sweet type, but also very quiet. So especially with his gloomy nature, he can easily be mistaken as someone callous, careless, emotionally numb, maybe even hostile in nature. However, at his core, he is a pure spirit with a sense of justice. Though his shyness may hinder him from time to time, he is great at being supportive friend. His biggest mental weakness is his low confidence, especially in himself. He often second-guesses decisions, and though he always prefers the route of de-escalation conflict, he is rarely has the nerve to speak up.

Inherited Gifts: Dowsing (think like a bloodhound picking up a scent. Vivian can not only pick up traces of magic or power in the air and follow it to its source, but if he finds traces of a person (hair, finger/footprint, remnants of their power), he can track their exact path as well)

Hypnosis (the stronger a subject's mental fortitude, the harder it is. Plus, his influence is limited to getting the subject to speak or perform minor actions, nothing extreme)

History: Unlike many gods and their demigod children, Vivian was able to stay in touch and even forge a relationship with Hypnos. The God of Sleep used a dreamscape, where the young boy would have limitless run, and they could speak while he slept in real time. They never discussed why or how Hypnos was able to do this, nor his true identity, but it never mattered to the oblivious child.

By day, Vivian lived his normal modern life. Originally from the gorgeous city of Florence, he was a normal schoolboy, aside from his ability to bewilder friends with his gifts (tracking, hypnosis). Despite that, it seemed like nobody believed him when he opened up about his dreams. However, his hardworking mother believed him, inspiring him to believe his own eyes and ignore the others when they called him crazy or foolish. Vivian took those words and ran with them; he settled on the theory that Hypnos was a ghost, and the strange phenomenon was him reaching out in the physical plane.

Something started to change though. Originally able to speak to his father every other night, Vivian started to notice that the more he grew, the less frequent the visits became. The encounters were shorter, and Hypnos seemed increasingly drained because of them. It always seemed like something heavy lingered on his mind, but he never had the will to disclose it. Since he also developed a shyer personality, Vivian was sad to see how disconnected they became. He started researching dreams and paranormal phenomena, hoping to find a link that would explain both the dreams themselves and why they stopped happening. However, he found nothing, and ever since he turned sixteen, the dreams have stopped completely. By seventeen, Vivian emigrated to the States with plans to study oneirology (the sector of psychology that focuses on dreams). There, he is intent on finding a breakthrough in his studies; something that will explain his mysterious life thus far, and way to reach out to Hypnos again.

Until one day, an owl delivers an ominous message to him, and following its "ghostly pull" to a mysterious place, he starts to learn that the phenomena he's known his whole life aren't paranormal at all, and his father is no ghost. Rather, it's all a part of something far more divine...
