Emiliano Achillinus

Return to Ordadus

Creator: soundofmind
Roleplay: Ordadus
Nickname: Emil

NAME: Emiliano Achillinus / Emil
GENDER/PRONOUNS: Male, He/Him
ROLE: The Magister
OCCUPATION: Arch Chronicler / Scholar
AGE: 28
NATIONALITY: Divitan, from Divitae
FAVORITE COLOR: Rose Pink

CURRENT MOTIVATION:
- He is a prolific writer and keeps a journal of all of his findings, experiences, and things he's learned. He calls it his "master thesis" and plans to present it to his professor back at the university they attended, in hopes of becoming a professor one day.
- Since he's never found deep emotional connection, he's settled for interacting with the world in an intellectual way. Thusly, he desires knowledge over all else. When he, however, runs into his emotional bankrupcy, that is likely to change...

BACKSTORY:
- He is priveliged, entitled, and comes from money. His parents are old money wealthy. Three generations back, his family profited from the conquering of Old Solimar - they provided weapons/arms because Divitae was allies with Ustana.
- He grew up lonely. His parents were emotionally neglectful, and Emiliano struggled building friendships. When he came into adulthood he realized that no one in his life would miss him if he left, because no one liked him -- so he did. He's always been very flippant about this fact and scarcely brings up his family.
- Emiliano did his higher education outside of Divitae in New Solimar and lived there off/on for a few years.
- He knows many languages. He's travelled the world but only ever interacted with the upper echelons of society, developing a very dishonest, curated experience of other cultures. He's been blowing his parents' money this whole time in the name of education/studies.
- He boarded the Gloria Invicta with the desire to learn more about the kingdom of Ledros, across the Argen Sea.
- His survival of the shipwreck and travel inland, by the way, was at the expense of others who protected them/helped him on the way. Survivor's guilt will 100% kick in, but delayed. Despair incoming! For the few that do survive, he will feel a sense of shame around all of them.
- Bonus: He is good at dancing and fencing, but has never done hard physical labor in his life. He is also proficient as a sommelier - he knows wine, how to decant it correctly, and has an attuned palate to appreciate the subtleties of each wine.

PERSONALITY: Pretentious, self-absorbed, and disconnected from the state of the world. The best way to describe him is as an emotionally unintelligent intellectual with charisma but no depth. He is highly attentive and curious - very perceptive, but not always insightful. He does, however, genuinely love to learn. He's well travelled, but not "cultured" in a way that matters. He always craves new experiences, but never forms deep connections that last. He defines himself by his intelligence and ability to communicate in different languages. (He's shallow because he fears intimacy and it's easier to connect over information! It's safer that way!)

APPEARANCE: Very pretty man, somewhat androgynous features. 5ft 10. Lean, sleek build. Has lean, defined muscles but they're NOT functional, it's PURELY ornamental. He has somewhat sleepy, alluring brown-gold eyes, brown, olive-toned skin, and long, nearly black hair that spills over his shoulders in loose, well-kept ringlet curls. His face is lean, and his brows, jawline, and cheekbones are defined but not too sharp. He has full lips and a small mole by the corner of his mouth and one near the inside of his eye. He wears a lot of simple but elegant jewelry and tends to wear tailored clothing of many styles that often reveals his well-defined collarbone and some chest hair.

PROJECTED ARC (Subject to Change):
- Facing Hardship: Hardship is new to him in all forms. He's never known lack, loss, or physical pain. All of it is new, overwhelming, and he will seek escapism -- to absorb himself in study and learn everything he can about Ordadus and the locals. He will become obsessed with it to avoid facing reality.

Eventually, he will reach acceptance. He'll let himself feel the pain, let go, and realize that many of his losses were things he doesn't need to live a fulfilled life. He will learn true generosity - formerly he would be frivilously generous from a place of wealth and money-blindness. Instead, he will learn to be generous when he has little.

- Facing Relational Rejection: After getting repeatedly rejected for his lack of empathy, compassion, and ability to just be a person instead of a journalist, he'll have to sit with not just the fact that nobody likes him, but that fundamentally, he doesn't like himself.

When his self hatred becomes realized, he'll have to learn how to open up to connection: being loved for who he is, when he feels like who he is, is very ugly (on the inside).

The survivor's guilt will hit hard at this point and he'll begin to ruminate and feel like he didn't deserve to survive over the others.

- Facing Romantic Rejection: He will realize in horror that he's developed romantic feelings for Ilaria, it's unrequited, and he has nowhere to go with that emotion and no known ways to cope with it. He's always been on the revieving end of romantic interest that HE'S not reciprocating. He's a writer, so he's going to be a VERY hopeless romantic and will be pining hard, down spiraling, and looking at everyone else as the problem before he turns to true self reflection. TBD if anything comes of the pining -- and if someone else more unsuspecting than a queen-to-be captures his heart.
- A Dying Dream and the Birth of a New One: As Emiliano accepts himself and feels accepted by others that he might actually want to stay. This may or may not be influenced by a special someone if it does or doesn't work out.

Path 1: If Ordadus becomes a place -- the first place -- where he feels a sense of home and belonging, he might completely forego his dreams of becoming a professor for something he feels is more meaningful and fulfilling: living the simple life in a community, where he actually feels wanted and wants to be there in return. If he goes this route he is likely to become a poet and a cowboy in Ordadus, embracing a quieter life.

Path 2: After coming to terms with who he is and reaching a place of self-fidelity and acceptance, he is able to sincerely open up to a romantic relationship with more depth than he's ever known prior. If this happens with Ilaria, his feeling of home and belonging would link to her -- and he would want to join her in her next adventures, be it exploring the world, or ruling a kingdom. If it happens with someone else, his attatchment will be to wherever they desire to settle.
