Julio Quispe

Return to Olympus Has Fallen (Archived)

Creator: Spearmint
Roleplay: Olympus Has Fallen (Archived)
Nickname: Julio

Name: Julio "Fancy Crispy" Quispe (the nickname is a joke... don't ask...)

Age (19-25): 20

Sexuality/Gender: he/him, gay

Godly Parent: Electryone (goddess of the sunrise and waking up)

Personality: Way too much of an early bird. A beatiful celadon ewer with hairline fractures. Guilty. Stressed.
Every day, Julio wakes up at the crack of dawn, telepathically turns his alarm clock off, counts his blessings, and feels guilty. He is reminded of how fortunate he is to be alive and to live the life he's living. How did he deserve this? Why not other ppl, like his old neighbors, or the friends he once had in elementary school? Why were only he and his father able to escape their poverty and move to the other side of the country? Why does it hurt so much whenever he bikes past the homeless camps in the city and has to avert his eyes as he rushes to be on time to his first class?
Julio feels the pressure to do something with all the opportunities he's been given. Desperately, he seeks a way to help others, to feel like he's doing some good in this world. But it's never enough. He's never enough.
Despite the churning clouds of insecurity within him, just as the sun always rises, Julio always keeps up a cheerful appearance. He keeps a friendly smile on his face and an offer to help on his lips. When with others, Julio tends to follow the path of least conflict, one that appeals to the majority of people. If people around him can't agree, it drains his energy. Criticism comes within a centimeter of breaking him. A harsh word from someone he looks up to would destroy the gauzy scraps of confidence he's sewn together over the years.
Somehow, Julio wakes up every morning. Somehow, he starts the day.

Powers: Julio can telepathically communicate with alarm clocks and turn them on, turn them off, make them start beeping, or (if he really exerts himself) make them explode. Also, he wakes up at dawn each day, no matter what. Yes, it isn't the most convenient sometimes, but Julio looks on the bright side-- at least he always sees gorgeous sunrises!

Appearance: Julio has medium brown skin, black hair, and soft dark eyes. He stands at a lean 5'7" and dresses frugally. By that, he means he's still wearing button-up shirts from high school. Thrifting is one of his favorite activities-- he loves giving items a second life. It reminds him that even things considered useless to one person can be just what makes a different person's day. Julio cuts his hair himself and so has a rather messy hairstyle that's slightly uneven at the back. He's getting better, though!

Short History: Julio grew up on the East Coast as the son of an aspiring actor. His father woke up early every day, often having a little note and a small breakfast prepared for Julio even when they were barely scraping by on money from advertisements or minor roles his father played. Julio attended public school in a city and made friends with kids in similar situations as his. He got used to never asking for anything expensive and repurposing trash he found into toys for himself and his friends.
But then, his father landed a visible supporting role. And then a main role. Julio was thrilled to see his father so happy, but at the same time, there were so many changes happening... The two of them moved to L.A., and Julio attended a slightly nicer middle school. He made new friends.
The year after, they moved again. Julio switched schools. His father bought a new car. Julio couldn't understand how the kids at school casually tossed half of their lunches away. It was harder for him to make friends this time. His father reminded him to be grateful every day and to never forget their roots. His father knew how much hard work it'd taken to get them there. Julio never forgot that, even as he tried his hardest to adjust. Slowly, he managed not to look shocked when other students were careless with their electronics and belongings. Gradually, Julio learned to fit in.
But it was never more than a facade. The true Julio--if there even was such a thing as a true version of a person--had been lost somewhere along the journey from slums to upper middle class, and Julio felt a constant need to be doing more, to be more.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths: Julio is optimistic about everything other than himself, gets along great with others, and can be a good peacemaker, if he has the energy. He's also diligent and a hard worker (getting up at dawn helps... he feels like he has more hours in the day). Julio also tries his best to brighten others' days in whatever way he can, whether that be with some humor or a listening ear.
Weaknesses: Julio feels guilty on a daily basis, then feels guilty for feeling guilty. He feels like he's not doing as much as he should to make the world a better place, but then he feels guilty for worrying about that when others are barely even surviving, like in war zones or in the slums. This eats him up inside and makes it difficult for him to truly feel good about anything he does. He's also sensitive to other peoples' opinions of him.

Up For Love?: Yeep. Um. Good luck dealing with him and his internal stress, though.

Other: Does Julio ever have mental conversations with alarm clocks? Yes... but you'll never tell, right? >.>
