Name: Merle "Merry" Ljubica.

Appearance: Merry is of average height and build with a rather androgynous appearance. He has dark hair that fades into a soft lavender, all done up in braids and soft curls. Merry dresses in dark clothing and various shades of purple, usually softer shades; he pairs them with a pair of beautiful calf-high military-style boots in black with lavender laces. One eye is slate blue, the other is a soft shade of violet. He has lightly tanned skin and a multitude of freckles across his checkbones, with a several earrings in both ears. One set of hoops, a series of multiple studs and cuffs, and a chain from the right cuff to one of the right studs, with a small teardrop purple gem hanging from said stud. Merry is intersex though he prefers to present himself as androgynous or male rather than anything else. There are two beautiful folding fans hanging on his belt, though you might not watch to touch them--they're sharp.
Thematic: Shades of purple, nighttime, storm clouds, stars, things long forgotten and abandoned, liminal spaces, the emptiness between stars.
Aura Color: Merry's aura is soft lavender, deep purple streaks through it, a bit of dark grey, like heavy storm clouds.
Magical Abilities: Merry has focused on Sigilweaving that deals in shadowy, stormy things. It's been his study of focus for several years with the encouragement of his family.
Affinity: Maelstrom; Merry has a natural affinity for the chaos of the natural world, specifically thunderstorms. This manifests as an ability to shadow or storm step, which means Merry takes a step into swirling clouds and reappears in a different spot, often accompanied by a loud crack of thunder that disorienates his opponets. He uses this to great effect in battle, quite often as a way to surprise and disorienate people.
Magical Weapon: A pair of beautiful war fans made of metal-tipped wood wrapped in black fabric with swirling purple and silver designs. They're Artificed to be more resistant to breakage and are unlikely to break unless some serious magic and force is applied.
Battle Style: Merry prefers to sneak about, but he's not above being in the thick of things either. He often seems to be dancing as he has a very fluid, dance-like style of fighting. Combined with his Maelstrom affinity, he makes for a very effective distraction during battle, if he choses to be said distaction.
Personality: Merry is a shy, quiet, reliable kind of guy and would rather sit in a quiet corner and read a book than interact with people, though if you get him to open up, he'll happily chat your ear off about magic, history, or anything really. He's quite smart and well-learned despite growing up with his mother in a poorer section of Glinthaven. When he's in battle, he does a compelte 180 from outside of battle; he's vocal and flirty, and seems to be quite in his element even to the point of being darkly amused by the violence. He also has a somewhat dark, morbid sense of humour, to the point of sometimes being concerning to others. He also has a fondness for animals and will take any opportunity to talk about his pet cat, a fluffy, pure white girl with bright blue eyes called Gwyn.
Personal Strengths: Fondness for animals, reliable, smart and well-learned, decent in a fight. Talented at his sigilweaving. He loves to learn and can foten be fond reading a book.
Personal Weaknesses: His personality in battle vs out of it can be a little whiplash-like and confusing for others. He's quiet but he's shy and takes a bit to warm up to people.
Backstory: Merry was born to a single mother, Orianne Ljubica (now Zareen) in a poorer area of Glinthaven and has three older sisters and a brother who's eleven years younger. For the majority of his childhood, he never knew who his father was and things were rough, but his mother made it work. His mother was a lounge singer and quite popular, which is how she met his step-father, Lord Blake Zareen.
His three sisters are Ceara, Viorica and Eurwen. Ceara works as a tailor's assistant. Viorica is a barmaid and married to the innkeeper. And Eurwen is an artificer's apprentice. His little brother, Ophir, has been studying magic as well and wants to follow in Merry's footsteps and intends to attend Lux Academy when he's a little older.
When Merry was about 11, his mother married an upper class widow who then adopted Merry. Nine months later, his little brother, Ophir, was born. Merry has spent the last nine or so years studying siigilweaving and learning what he needs to help his step-father's business. His step-father has been very supportive in Merry's desire to attend Lux and has encouraged his study of anything and everything magic.
Merry has a loving family and was lucky that his adoptive father was very welcoming. Since his mother and step-father married, he's had a very happy childhood. But he'd always wanted more, and decided to aim for Lux Academy. Merry was quite surprised when he got accepted.
Reason for Applying to Lux Academy: Merry has always wanted to learn more about magic and sigilweaving and with his parents' encouragement, he applied to the academy.
Connections to Lux Academy: He has no personal connection to Lux, but his step-father's name has some weight to it.
Personal Goal: He wants to make friends outside of his siblings and parental figures. Friends that are interested in magic like he is. Oh, and a God Crystal couldn't hurt.
Personal Secret: Merry is intersex and tries not to talk about it, so he prefers to present as male or ambiguous/androgynous than to let people know he's more than he seems.
Personal Fear: He's afraid of others finding out about his secret, and also losing his family.
