Brylyth van Veshoria
Return to Under A Red Moon
Creator: winterwolf0100
Roleplay: Under A Red Moon
Nickname: Bryly (rhyming with Riley)
Name: Brylyth van Veshoria
Age: 19
Gender: Male, he/him
Race: Half-elf
Profession: Prince (associated skills: aristocratic BS, connections, the skill to roam aimlessly for adventure in a very privileged way)
Bonded Dragon: Brynn has no dragon. Brynn has always wanted a dragon, much to the horror of his parents, especially considering his brother was kidnapped and held "hostage" by a dragon for five years. Even after this, Brynn STILL would absolutely take the chance to have a dragon. No dragon is insane enough to do that though (hopefully).
Appearance: Brynn is a light-skinned mixed man, with scatters of acne and freckles, as well as short, curly brown hair that tinges on red. When Brynn is actively using blood magic, his hair seeps out red from the roots, like the blood is staining his hair. If it is the Blood Moon and he is actively using blood magic a lot, his hair can begin to drip blood, which will also inevitably drip down his face and body. He's tall and slim, almost like he has a dancer's physique, and while his skin is not clear by any means, he is considered extremely attractive, stereotypically.
Personality: Brynn is outgoing, charming, and a very impulsive person. He overshares, overflirts, and overdoes near everything he does with such a level of confidence that people can't tell if he's cocky or just stupidly optimistic. He's grown up extremely privileged, which has developed certain aspects of his personality, and sometimes, he's not always completely there in his head-- the severity of it varies based on circumstances, how close the next Blood Moon is, and just day-to-day stuff. He's terrible at keeping secrets, doesn't always see the need, and definitely loves to gossip. That said, he's not going to hold back on the fact that he's a noble, but he is not stupid enough to spread around the fact that he's a royal. He knows enough to keep a secret when there's someone's safety involved (coincidentally, usually his own). He laughs a lot, and can generally bring a positive mood to a group, so long as they aren't focused on how dark he can actually be sometimes. He's also very independent, despite working well within a group setting.
- Strengths: Charismatic, charming, and extroverted, which lend themselves to a group setting and atmosphere. He can cause some serious damage through blood magic if it's close enough to a Red Moon and he's feeling so inclined. He's also flexible and has very fluid movements, which turn more jerky and controlling during the Blood Moon.
- Weaknesses: He has the tendency to open up way too quickly, not necessarily because he trusts people, but because his main way of dealing with trauma is to joke about it, and so he ends up making jokes that reveal things about his past that are extremely concerning. He also is a little off his rocker, and not completely stable. He's not so much quick on his feet as he is impulsive. He's also selfish. Really selfish. He absolutely will save himself over you if there's a choice.
Magic: Brynn practices wards in the same way someone might take up knitting as a hobby; he'll often absent-mindedly find himself imbuing random objects with protection sigils, even if they don't need one. Sometimes, this can backfire because he'll drop something and it'll give an explosion of energy to protect itself, which can end with him having to extract a piece of a fancy china dish from his foot without telling anyone because said china dish was "irreplaceable" and "indescribably valuable" and "an important heirloom of the throne" (true story).
He has the ability to sigil-weave, but much like knitting an incredibly difficult object versus something simple like a scarf, it takes a lot more of his energy and focus, and there's a much bigger margin for error. He's still definitely crazy enough to attempt something WAY above his skill level, which will either work out GREAT (he will tell you he told you so) or someone gets incredibly hurt.
The Red Moon particularly affects Brynn through infecting him with blood magic, which is chaotic and unstable at best. Most of the time, he does not show any signs of it, nor does he use it. It has affected his overall personality though, and he is slightly unhinged because of its influence on his brain. When there's a Red Moon, his personality does a near 180 turn as the blood magic takes over him completely.
History: Brynn is a prince of Melnar, the third oldest child, which basically means he is useless to the throne. His eldest brother went missing seven years ago, and was gone for the next five years, presumed to be kidnapped by dragons. His younger brother went out in search for him, but Brynn felt rather indifferent to the whole situation. Maybe he was just in his own world, or maybe he's just an out-of-sight, out-of-mind kind of person. Either way, while he does care for his family, when they weren't around, he wasn't actively thinking of them every day.
His parents have always kept their feelings regarding Brynn's magical...tendencies... ambiguous, but they've made their feelings on other things quite clear. It's also clear from the fact that Brynn is mixed and his other siblings are not, that something happened outside of wedlock. His father did not treat him bad because of this, but there was a factor of alienation that Brynn felt growing up. At the age of fifteen, Brynn was set to be betrothed to a princess of a neighboring kingdom, and he's been avoiding it ever since. He's made his feelings clear through many passive-aggressive dinner conversations, but he wouldn't say outright to either of his parents that he refuses to get married. Despite the fact that he is extremely selfish, he wouldn't do something that he knows would blatantly make him look that way. Because of this, by the time his eighteenth birthday was approaching and a wedding was imminent, Brynn found every way he could to stay away from home. He trained under countless experienced sigil-weavers across the country-- which is not to say that he is just that good, but more that they either quit in frustration or he quit them for how "boring" and "overly protective" they would be about what he should and shouldn't do. More recently though, he's been considering running away and just not going back. Not that he would ever want to leave behind the perks of his life as a royal--but he will do anything to avoid the wedding until he can figure out a way to tell his parents (other than the glaringly obvious signs) that he is very much gay and very much not interested in marrying a woman.
Up For Love: Up for love, but naive about it. He's also extremely gay, and may or may not be fleeing from an arranged marriage.
Other: Things Brynn has likely said in regards to sigils, as someone who is, at best, intermediate: "Oh, you're not supposed to attempt this sigil until you're deemed a master? Let's see what happens!"
"Forbidden? that just sounds like another word for a GOOD TIME, am I right?"
"Oohhhhh let's see what this one does!"
Brynn is absolutely insane. He can be calmed down though, I think, if the right group of people or the right person in particular was able to actually connect with him and help him realize the consequences his actions have. He is very naive to the world, which only fuels his chaotic energy, because he's never had to face a really bad consequence for acting the way he does. Of course, the original source of this attitude is the Blood Moon's affect on him, but it's definitely fueled by the life of a royal child who was overlooked but also got all the privileges of his status.
