Appearance: Scraggy black hair with plenty of cowlicks and loose strands. Her traditional clothes are loose and flowy, but tight enough to keep out of the way. Only has a few outfits and rotates between them, yet they look incredibly similar. She has a electric green eyes and often wearing a nervous expression. Měi Lián refuses to wear any type of shoes, instead having leggings that let only cover the arch of her feet. She says they're "too restricting."
Personality: Měi Lián is a rather shy girl, not usually going out of her way to meet people (especially in a competition). She isn't completely turned off to social interaction, though, and is quite nice to all she meets. Měi Lián will go out of her way to make sure others are comfortable around her. She'll pick up after her messes and likes cheering people up when she can. It can gain her some good favor among the stronger opponents, but she's found it helps her get much closer to them than most, for better or for worse...
Brief History: Měi Lián comes from an empire that, although technologically advanced, believes in tradition above all else. Back in her home, she ran a clinic with her mother. Instead of any modern medicine, they worked specifically with sigils and magic to heal physical injuries. Her mother was much better at it than her, but she was able of handling herself well. One day, her mother fell ill, and Měi Lián had no idea how to cure it. Their power mainly encompassed physical injuries, but she tried everything to keep her healthy. She studied poisons, bacteria, viruses, but couldn't manage to cast anything that'd keep her healthy for long. Shortly after her mother fell ill, Měi Lián found herself in the Grand Arena.
Fighting Style: Měi Lián keeps herself far away from the fight, instead using her magic to conceal and defend herself. She keeps plenty of herbs and spices on her as well, in case she gets too up close and needs a quick getaway or bandage.
Weapon: Square papers and an ink pen, mainly. Although fairly simple, her sigils and spells can be deadly. Occasionally, she'll find herself with a staff or poisoned blade. If ever in a pinch, she can draw sigils on herself to harness her qi and control specific elements (water, earth, fire, metal, and wood).
Abilities: Měi Lián's choice weapons are venom and poison. Her past as a doctor and taking care of her sick mother encouraged her to build an immunity to most poisonous plants and venomous snakes. Even if it does affect her, she has enough know-how to heal the wounds with ease.
Strengths: Měi Lián is immune to many poisons and can easily diagnose and find short-term solutions to her injuries. She works well around a natural and biodiverse environment.
Weaknesses: Měi Lián is terrible at up-close combat. If someone gets too close to her, she has no physical strength to fight them off. At most, she can throw pepper in their eyes and run away.
An environment you struggle in: Any arena that's small and flat. Měi Lián needs to stay out of punching and stabbing zone to really do her work. She also dislikes working on rocky terrain, since she can end up having cuts on her feet rather easily.
An environment you excel in: She excels in biodiverse environments with enough spots for her to hide and set traps. Especially if they have a soft ground or places to climb up to.
Other: Měi Lián likes spending her free time eating questionable berries and plants, seeing if they could be the cause of her mother's diseases. Her favorite snack is poison ivy.
