Kynina Fallon

Return to Lux Academy

Creator: SilverNight
Roleplay: Lux Academy
Nickname: Kynina

Name: Kynina Fallon
Age: 18
Pronouns: she/her

Appearance: Kynina has long, straight black hair with curtain bangs. Her eyes are dark, and she has olive skin. She’s on the tall side and slender, with little muscle. She has several piercing in her ears and usually wears crystal earrings. She also wears necklaces, but never rings or bracelets. Kynina has a favorite long coat, as considered fashionable by city mages, which is navy blue in color with glimmering fabric. Under it, she wears mostly dark clothes, usually a blue blouse with a corset and black jeans. She wears leather boots with a slight heel because she gets a little confidence with the extra height.
Thematic: Dark and shimmering like the moon at night, blue and blacks. Grace, style, fierce power lying just hidden under a calm surface.
Aura Color: Gray and teal. The gray is more visible when the aura is partially active, looking like billowing smoke or a cloud heavy with rain, swirling and misty. When fully active, streaks of electric teal stripe through it, making it look like a thundercloud caging lightning inside.

Magical Abilities: Kynina is most interested in sigilweaving, and it has been a subject of her research for several years as a passion project.
Affiinity: Caldera— Kynina’s aura can fly out at objects (but not living things), charging them with energy. This energy is not unlike firing a bullet or launching a firework: it will make the object shoot off and eventually explode. This can be very dangerous with metal objects, as it creates shrapnel. She has some control over it, making it possible for her to have the object remain stationary and only explode, or control the object’s trajectory (although this is hardest, as it goes quite fast and is very unpredictable normally) without it turning into a bomb. She can do this for multiple objects at once, but if she wants to avoid damage to herself or others, it becomes difficult.
Magical Weapon: She prefers to use small throwing knives or stars. She has many, but two knives have been artificed to be more aerodynamic and stay in flight, so they’re very likely to eventually find their way to a target. Kynina has good aim with these, but when she’s going for sheer power over precision, they make excellent projectiles for her Affinity. If she uses them this way, she has to constantly replace them (so she doesn’t do it for the artificed ones).
Battle Style: Kynina fights, as expected, in a rather explosive way. She’s able to claim a lot of space for herself, as it tends to create a whirlwind of debris in an area around her, and getting too close could mean getting hit by a fast-moving object or shrapnel, or caught in an explosion. She generally relies on this, rather than physically attacking someone, and often gets people to reconsider targeting her instead of engaging in close combat. This also makes it a little difficult for her to fight by someone’s side: she’d be pretty willing to, but it could harm her allies.

Personality: Kynina is gracious and friendly, often reaching out to those who don’t seem to know many people. When someone is unkind or harsh to her, she will usually keep her cool and try to find out why they are acting that way. If she decides she can’t change that behavior (which usually only happens when it gets repeated), then she will move on and cut them out. She likes feeling like she knows people, and that she understands them in their various moods, but she feels like for all her efforts for others, she’ll never be paid attention to in the same way by them.
Personal Strengths: She is attentive to others, and very reliable in times of need, being very willing to do someone a favor. She is also good at resolving conflicts, which she sees a lot of in her circles from knowing lots of different people. She knows how to make people feel seen and appreciated.
Personal Weaknesses: Kynina is particularly sensitive and will often keep giving too many chances to people who hurt her because she feels it’s her duty to be forgiving. This sometimes leads to her staying around people who are toxic or unhealthy for her. She is also inclined to gossip sometimes from hearing so much.

Backstory: Kynina’s mother, another mage, has leadership over the city of Arelinor. It’s a busy job for a city in chaos that seems to be falling apart on itself on some days. Since her father had left the family when she was three, her mother was having trouble balancing raising her and holding her city together. Soon, she stopped balancing it at all, leaving Kynina to be raised by her house staff as she turned all her attention to Arelinor. Kynina had a strange upper-class life as a young child, living in privilege and luxury, all while she wondered how she still seemed to have this empty hole inside her that none of it could fill.

Kynina got tired of it when she was a teenager. She started going out into the city, often when she wasn’t allowed, and started meeting other mages. They told her of their struggles in daily life, and how nothing ever seemed to getting easier, and how the leadership was turning a blind eye to many of their prevalent issues. Her empathy for them combined with her frustration at how her mother was allegedly so hard at work that she never had her to herself, but somehow nothing was getting done. She became an activist for the local mage community, using her status to lift up their demands and complaints. The movement gained a lot of traction, and it denounced her own mother for being complicit, which she wasn’t afraid to do. It was becoming successful, and Kynina had real hope for it, until her mother got angry and sent her away at 16 to a boarding school so that she wouldn’t stir up any more political trouble for it.

This boarding school was not specifically for mages, which was no doubt a conscious decision made so that she wouldn’t be able to start another movement. But Kynina craved the thing she realized she’d been missing while she’d been under her mother’s thumb: community with people like her, a space filled with people that she could get to know, a cause to fight for and improve lives. She needed to get it back. Lux Academy was a bit of a desperate hope, and she wasn’t sure if she could do it, being mostly self-taught in her power. Kynina will never be sure if it was because of her activism or because she was actually up to their standards, but she was accepted. Her mother opposed it and tried to prevent her from going, but due to an uproar from the people she’d helped before, she was forced to allow it.
Reason for Applying to Lux Academy: Kynina hopes to become a better mage and return to her mission as soon as she’s more equipped for it. She knows Lux Academy is producing capable and talented mages, and she shares a similar vision for the mage community in general. She believes her time here will help her learn how to lift them up better— and if she can get a God Crystal, she’ll have no trouble at all.
Connections to Lux Academy: Kynina had no official connection or relationship to anyone there, student or staff, but unknown to her, her work had made her quite popular there. She hadn’t expected to be appreciated by mages outside of Arelinor.
Personal Goal: Learn all she can, be more prepared for her activism— maybe get a God Crystal if it’s looking likely— and return to Arelinor to finish what she started.
Personal Secret: There’s a rumor, not widespread but still present at Lux Academy, that she’s accidentally killed someone with her Affinity in training before she got here. Kynina gets very upset and hurt if someone asks or accuses her of doing it.
Personal Fear: She fears failing at her goal, either because she’s not strong enough to win against her mother or because she makes a mistake and ruins the movement’s chances.

Other: Kynina giggles a lot and talks rather fast (unless she’s giving a speech, where she somehow becomes very professional out of nowhere). She’s pan.

Thoughts on Kynina
Railyn: Bestie vibes. While Railyn might not fully understand Kynina at times, he's probably gonna view her as a friend he can rely on. That might make him come off as aggressive or passionate tho i imagine railyn might have like golden retreiver energy and that can be a lot at times XD
Cyra: ???
Edalyn: Eda doesn't really like Kynina, and is quick to question her motives. She doesn't understand how someone could just throw themselves into a cause seemingly without considering themselves. However, she admires Kynina's talent and her affinity, so there's a bit of jealousy behind her feelings towards Kynina. Eda stays at arms length, knowing her dislike of Kynina is based around jealousy but unable to curb the feeling.
Thane: Thane is going to view Kynina's story of trying to help lower-income mages in Arelinor as a complete savior complex, and it is going to piss her off. Since Kynina is from an elite family and her mom probably actively reinforces the violence against mages in the city as well as at the very least turning a blind eye to the slew of kidnappings and killings, Thane is going to think Kynina has no idea what she's talking about, especially when Kynina likely has very limited information on what's going on in Arelinor. The idea that Kynina is being praised for her activism while mages who are physically fighting back are kidnapped or killed and never recognized definitely rubs Thane the wrong way. Until Kynina proves otherwise, Thane is going to view her as a princess who's afraid to get mud on her new dress but acts like she loves horse-riding for attention.
Euphemia: I think Euphemia wouldn't have many strong feelings towards Kynina, but she would try to remain amicable. Her willingness to gossip could make Euphemia stay a bit wary of her though, but it depends on how first impressions are.
Safiana: Safi will probably get along very well her, or at least definitely want to be friends. It might take her a second to believe Kynina is being genuine in terms of friendship given she's seen this treatment a lot before that turned out to be fake. Kynina's activism is going to interest her if nothing else. I don't feel like she'd really have seen that particular side of the world enough to understand but its something she would be interested in trying to know more about and she might go to Kynina about that.
Ezra: They know each other. Like, they've met, and Ezra is pretty sure that means they're friends now.
Aapeli: Pel would be neutral towards Kynina. She'd seem a bit like a princess to him, and like someone who'd generally be pretty popular. If Kynina reached out to Pel, he'd be nice enough, but would be reluctant to open up, just because he'd think they were too different.
