Name: Hazel Calaeno

Gender and pronouns: Male, he/him

Appearance: Curly dark brown hair, chin length at the longest parts, with a couple white strands. Pale skin, smattering of freckles on his face, long eyelashes and golden brown eyes. He's tall and slender, with a pianist's fingers and well-manicured nails. He dresses in black robes and wears white gloves while performing, and although his non-performing outfit is less dramatic, he still wears a cloak, dark leather boots, and the same color scheme. He has a scar between his third and fourth fingers on his left hand from when he was a youngling still trying out things and ended up being the target for the equally young and then inexperienced knife-throwers.

Role and act in Harbinger's Society: Hazel is the company's magician and trick performer. He's very dramatic, and whenever a certain trick demands a little flair, whether it's levitation, a deck of cards, or a vanishing act, he goes above and beyond for grandeur. Unlike other magicians, his tricks can't be explained away by a single magical power: most of the other shows will have tricks that all rely on the same ability, which eventually gives it away to the audience when they notice the repetition, but his are all different from each other and don't rely on his actual magic abilities (see more in Other) at all. Since the audience is never able to figure how he does it, it makes his act different from other troupes', and he prides himself on being able to keep them guessing. He's constantly coming up with new tricks.

Role in missions and heists: He rarely helps with anything too physical, as he's not a trained acrobat, but he's very important for creating diversions and distractions to keep his troupe out of trouble. His usual magic tricks are a little limited away from the theater, but he can carry and hide a couple props on his person to cause a scene at the location. (In fact, sometimes he can cause a scene without any gadgets at all, if he's feeling melodramatic enough.) Additionally, he has incredible sleight of hand from being able to hide his movement, so he's a great pickpocket and thief when an object needs stealing quietly.

Personality: Hazel is playful and extraverted, with a teasing nature. A lot of this goes into his behavior: he has a signature grin that's both cheeky and a little sly, and even just his walk is more of a graceful saunter. He's a dramatic person who's also very amusing and makes a lot of jokes, and so the way he talks is always just a little bit extra. For someone who used to be a child who nervously rambled and was never quite sure what he was saying and got self-conscious about it, this is a big change, and the troupe often mentions how different he's come to be. But much of his current personality was consciously crafted to be interesting to viewers once he started performing, and at some point he realized he was doing it outside of the act too. His charisma gives him a lot of confidence on the stage and when talking to those in his company, but he can't help but feel as if the person his showmates see in him is another one of his tricks, another false thing he's created the illusion of, and he worries that he's deluded them into believing it as if they were his audience. He's worried about never being seen for who he thinks he really is, but he's even more scared that someone will find out.

Strengths: Hazel has a smooth tongue, and he can often talk his way out of trouble as well as get people on his side. He's a very talented magician, and he's very clever, using his brilliance to come up with brand-new tricks or how other magicians do theirs, and he can usually see the hidden parts at work in a puzzle that other people will miss. He also has a knack at getting people to feel better when they're feeling down, and he can usually get them to laugh despite it.

Weaknesses: Hazel has a couple kleptomaniac urges and will often subtly snatch something of someone else's (but he'll always put it back later). He isn't very genuine with how he expresses himself: only his positive emotions come out authentically, while the negative ones get bottled up as he tries to go on with the way he is, and the troupe has guessed at this because they know he can't be cheerful all the time. Hazel has a crippling fear of strong winds that he hasn't explained to anyone, and he holes up somewhere inside on gusty days.

History in the Harbinger's Society: He's been there since birth. His parents were a stilt-walker duo, but when he started looking to be an apprentice at something, it wasn't their role that called to him. It was his aunt's role as a magician, which was more of an unusual act at the time, because it was neither commedia nor acrobatics. It surprised his parents greatly, and perhaps disappointed them a little, but Hazel's aunt gladly taught him what she knew, and he had natural talent for it. When he became a master himself at her retirement and took to the stage on his own, he started to change the perception of magicians as a "third choice" among the troupe. His parents passed away from an outbreak of disease among the crew a few years back, but his aunt is still around, and he continues to consider her his mentor.

Other: Hazel's only actual magic ability (though he insists the other tricks "might as well be magic") is the ability to summon colorful flames that change colors and move around at his will. He refers to it as his Spectrum. These flames do not burn or damage, and they do not feel hot either: in fact, if someone were to touch one of them, they would feel nothing but a bitter, icy cold. It makes no appearance at all in his magic shows, except for when he first walks on stage and wields it over the audience's heads to grab their attention and get them excited. He's also bisexual, the Other section seems like a great spot to put that.
