Rìoghail Ysbrydtân

Return to Shattered Moons

Creator: FigrothFelanor
Roleplay: Shattered Moons
Nickname: Rio

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Race: Human

Theme: Red (tartan), brown, blue

Appearance: Rìoghail has curly-ish red hair and hazel eyes (the kind that's mostly green and brown around the pupils). She has light caucasian skin. Look for that devilish grin on her face. She's around 1.76 metres tall (5'9) with a lean body type. She wears a Royal Stewart tartan skirt that goes almost up to her knees and a brown leather armour vest with a red t-shirt underneath. She wears a blue hooded cloak over those. She has elbow and knee pads on. Simple brown boots and belt with the hilt of her sword. Wears a ring with her symbol on it on the fourth finger of her left hand. Her symbol appears on her cloak and on her vest, over her heart.

Weapon: Rìoghail wields a sword of celtic style, Draigoch. The hilt is shaped as a stylised human figure and when Rìoghail wields it, the use of Dust causes a little flame to ignite on the hilt human's head, similar to her own ginger hair. Her sword can break into two swords, one of which can then turn into a shield, too. Draigoch was originally Rio's father's, but she inherited it from him and modified it when she was in Sanctum. Name for the dual swords: Draigiefell.

Semblance: Rio hasn't discovered her semblance, yet, but can engulf certain parts of her body in flames. With concentration, she can also extend that range around her, combusting her weapon or certain areas in flames.

Personality: Rìoghail has an upbeat, careless, sort of enthusiastic character. She's risk-taking and brave to a fault. She usually takes fighting lightly and enjoys a fight. She is curious and extroverted. She has a great fondness of nature, especially when it comes to forests, where she considers herself to be at her element. Rìoghail is reluctant to talk about her past as a pickpocket.

History: Hailing from Mistral, Rìoghail is the daughter of a city guard, Préachta and a fortune teller, Bhioraid, from the city's lower classes. Their marriage resulted in a life on a higher level of Mistral, but when Préachta died in a Grimm attack when the former was eleven, her mother and she were soon forced to a lower living standard. Bhioraid went back to using her exotic (celtic-like) heritage to con people, while after a period of food shortage, unbeknownst to her mother, Rio began her career as a pickpocket. Meanwhile, when she could she trained with her father's sword, Préachta having taught her the basics of sword fighting when he was alive.
However, Rio's life was to change again when she was fifteen. When she tried to pickpocket a passing man, he realised it and confronted her. Rio instead of running prepared for a possible attack. Intrigued by this approach, the stranger fights her (having a weapon himself). However, when it seemed certain Rìoghail would lose the fight, the man stopped his offense and instead offered her a place in Sanctum, where he taught. Realising she'd just met a Huntsman she considered the prospect of becoming a Huntress herself. Having lived in a parasitic way the last few years, something of which she wasn't proud, the idea of protecting others (like her father did) appealed to her greatly. She took up on his offer and after some convincing with her mother, at the start of the next school year she was amongst the other students of Sanctum Academy.
Finally, getting professional training and making some healthy friendships, she was happy. But it was not to be. Some old acquaintances from her years in the streets approached Rìoghail and requested that she stole the lien of some her richer classmates. Although she managed to fend them off when they reacted badly to her refusal, she realised that her new life would never be free of her old one, as long as she stayed in Mistral. For that reason, she decided to try to enroll in Beacon at the beginning of the next school year (skipping the rest of preparatory school as she was too old to restart on Signal). After eventually getting past her mother's objections, she attended Beacon's entrance exam. Being accepted and coming to Beacon, we are now up to date.

Up for love: We'll see.
Other: Rìoghail's fighting style is a mix of aggressive force and skilled swordplay. Her attacks lacking the weight her enemies or the heavier ones of her comrades can put in their own, she relies on her speed to deliver greater damage. She hasn't worked a lot on using her aura and she often neglects to use it for her defense.

When walking barefoot in the wilderness, Rio's steps are almost inaudible. Even so, she'd rarely incorporate stealth as a combat technique, preferring to come face to face with her enemies.
