Personality: Ann was never very extroverted or very good at expressing the way she felt. When she discovered acting as a child, she found a powerful outlet for expression. What makes her popular is her charisma and her toughness. She's really protecting a fragile interior, but she won't let it on until you really get to know her.

Background:

Ann was born Judy Ann Goldmyer to a steady middle class family in Detroit. While she liked boys, she was disinterested in only being a housewife. She wanted to see the world, and escape the confines of Michigan. Her parents agreed to help as long as she finished high school. So, when she did, she headed out west to California.

After being rejected from MGM, she signed with Vitophone. She was told her given name was "too square" to market, and she would have to pick a new one. Judy was happy to oblige, as a new name would allow her to reinvent herself and forget her past.

She picked Ann after her middle name, and Davis after her mother's maiden name, and so she became Ann Davis.

In her movies had a unique quality of neither being all good or all bad. She wouldn't pass for a straight laced virgin, but she was still the girl you would want to take home to your mom. This made her extremely popular with men, which always made Ann uncomfortable. She dated casually, but still hasn't found the one man that's made her feel truly special.

When she heard about Karen - even though they never met - she felt a connection to her because of their shared home state. She never had it as bad as Karen, but she saw much of herself in her.
