“It’s okay,” she said gently. “It’s a lot to handle.”

It was better than nothing. She gave him another pat, glancing at the fire to give him time to sort himself out.

She glanced over at him, then back at the fire. She’d gotten him all worked up. And she felt bad about it. She hesitated a long moment then scooted over ...

“Okay.” Ky nodded. She supposed that was a reasonable enough concern, given how badly he’d suffered at their hands. It wasn’t her place to meddle.

“And you’ve suffered enough for it,” Ky said firmly.

“He seems merciful,” Ky said with a little shrug. “I bet he’d want you to have peace. You didn’t do anything wrong. Not to deserve this.”

She cringed. “… what if I asked instead? Could Haelar undo it? Or convince Fjori to?”

“…True,” Ky admitted with a nod. “But… is… there worse?”

“I still think it’d be worth a shot asking.” She shrugged, glancing away.

“How do you know?” she challenged gently. “They might. It’s been so long.”

“Right… so… if he remembered, maybe he wouldn’t be mad anymore?” She glanced at him tentatively. “Maybe he’d reverse it?”

Ky glanced at him. “Are you going to… try to talk to him?”

She cringed and nodded. “… do you… nevermind.”

She glanced over at him. “Why not?”

She shivered. “…well… it’ll be okay.”
