“Um… yeah.” She nodded, glancing at the wall and then feeling stupid as soon as she did. What good did that do her? She glanced back at him. “How… far ...

“That’s sweet.” She smiled a little. “It’s definitely heart warming when the kids write you little letters.”

She blinked, feeling uneasy. “Hear… what?”

She furrowed her brow. What had gotten into him? “…Are you okay?”

“That’s great.” She nodded. “I’m sure you’ve made a difference for a lot of kids. Gave them hope for the future they wouldn’t have otherwise had.”

Ky hesitated on the landing of the third floor as she heard footsteps in the hall. Was that Gaius? It sounded like it. She poked her head out to look.

“Ah. That’s gotta be hard, I can’t even imagine.”

“Ahh, nice. Like… therapist? Or CPS? Or…?”

Ky headed down the stairs, not sure where she was going. She was doubting herself about what time it might or might not be. Perhaps she shouldn’t bother anyone yet.

Sadie nodded. “That’s great. And what is it you do again?”

(Oh shit) Ky took a while to get herself put together and calmed down. She took her sweet time getting ready for the day and putting her bed back together, ...

Sadie smiled. “How old are they?”

“Your kids!” Sadie called back with a chuckle.
