“You do understand why I’m skeptical?” He looked down at the collar. “Cure-alls tend to have a catch.”

He weighed the collar in his hand, considering it. “I’m not putting this on unless you tell me how it works. I don’t know you.”

"Why I should trust you?" he scoffed, looking at her flatly. "You've disregarded everything I've said up to this point."

"What 'actions'?" he asked skeptically.

"What is it supposed to do?"

He scratched his neck, glancing up at the sky. "Obviously."

"Fork..." Aeron patted his pockets, trying to remember which one he'd put it in, then tossed it to her, wrapped in plastic. "Sorry; here you go."

"Pancakes." He gestured with the styrofoam box, then pulled a small container out of his pocket. "Syrup." He offered them both to her.
