Are any of you interested in hosting activities or contests or have new ideas?

Roughly how many chicken poems are you planning on writing during the month?

There's only 43 jam jars until NaPo begins! If you comment some thoughts I'll send you 25 points! :]

Though I probably won't have time to help host anything, I'm excited to see all the event/contest/activity buzz happening! As for what I'll be doing with my NaPo thread this year, well . . . let's just say: Shakespeare Training Arc.

    RECORD BREAKING ATTEMPT

I hope everyone enjoyed #UnSoMo now as the official social fortnight or #SocialMonth2024 has started. Here is one more exciting thing for you all. This social month we planned to break a YWS record! All the past YWS records and record holders are mentioned in the The YWS Big Book of Records, but there are collective records as well like the last Great Tortoise Race of 2023 we broke the last Most Users to Complete Team Tortoise in one Month record with 9 members making through the month.

This social month on YWS we are trying to break the record of Most people in a writing pad at once. It would be a pretty cool record to set. The last one would probably have been for YWS's 16th birthday with around 20 people. We are trying to surpass that goal and yeah that's crazy, chaotic, and of course AMAZING!

We got this! Do not forget your fruit juices, everyone. Mr.Pineapple invites you to the GREAT PINEAPPLE PARTY hosted by me and @OrabellaAvenue!
    The date and timing is
(There is a code applied that changes the time to the reader's time zone so it will be different for everyone according to where they live)

BluesClues alas I fully completely missed this 😂

OrabellaAvenue No problem! It was a bit unexpected for everyone, including me who knew about it weeks in advance. :D

  • Are you a morning or night person?
neither morning nor night person, but a secret third thing (tired sleepy all the time)

    Biggest Pet Peeve:
people who honk the second the light turns green, like ma'am please give me time to get my foot off the brake

    Collections?
    books and tiny glass animals

    Dream job:
not having a job but being comfortably well-off anyway lol

    (your go-to) Emoji:
    :eyes:

    Favorite YWS Work:
    the facts of orbiting

    Greatest achievement:
you'd think it'd be the book deal but actually I'm going with (a) sticking with pole fitness so long, (b) continually trying new moves even when they seem impossible or awkward, and (c) becoming confident enough to post reels and pics <3

Hardest part of the writing process:
revising, usually, but lately also drafting in terms of like finishing :(

If you won the lottery, what would you do?
pay off my student loans, buy a new car, and replace the floors and subfloors in the house. and then have some private pole lessons so I could do a solo routine in the showcase

    Joke:
    knock knock
    who's there?
    interrupting cow
    interrupting cow wh-- MOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    Know a fun fact?
the word "raspberry" meaning that sound you make with your tongue and lips comes from the rhyming slang phrase "raspberry tart" which means "fart" (bc it rhymes with "tart") which is what that sound sounds like

    Last read:
    Better Off Read, Nora Page

    Main writing project:
finishing up the first round of edits on The Keeper of Lonely Spirits!

    Note to your past self:
you would not believe where you are now but things will get so much better <3

One non-necessity you couldn't live without:
    oat milk lattes

    Person you admire:
    @Atticus @Shady @alliyah

if you saw me post this before remembering I'd forgotten to delete the previous person's answer here no you didn't sorry if you got grabbed in the tag whoops

Question you'd like people to answer below:
    what is your favorite tree?

    Reason to write:
the tension between wanting to be known and not wanting to be known at all

    Sports:
poooooooooooooooooooooooole. god can you believe I have an answer for this now!?

    Tag a YWSer that's a good writer:
    @alliyah @mellifera

    Ultimate color:
wow this is even more stressful than favorite color, heck

    Volunteer?
actually looking into volunteering with the girl scouts but I am so heckin busy

    What are you working on?
    ...still those edits

    eXciting news:
my editor is putting together vibes to give to the marketing team for cover ideas, and I got my tentative pub date today which makes this seem more real <3

    Your favorite unlikely combination:
cheese + chocolate <<< just gonna steal this answer from @fatherfig bc correct, an excellent combo. you can actually buy chocolate cheese and it's pretty good

    Zombies?
    sure, I love Warm Bodies

    #alphabetanswers

Quillfeather I think I might cry having you say you admire me :') favorite tree is probably like Aspen because they have beautiful leaves in the fall

  • Hmm. Today is a day to simply ignore the dumpsterfire that is the publishing industry.

BluesClues The sus Hugo Awards judging has been found out so now we know for sure how sus it was and boy it's a bit creepy, some of the stuff that was going on behind the scenes, not to mention stupid, and next year's Hugo committee has already released a statement with steps THEY'LL take for transparency in judging
    Feb 15, 2024

BluesClues Review-bombing of 2024 debuts AGAIN the day after Cait Corrain had a tearful interview in which they once again tried to blame their earlier racist review-bombing on their neurodivergence, or if you don't believe that on their meds, or if you don't believe that on a psychotic break, or if you don't believe THAT then on the fact that they lied to their psychiatrist for drugs. Failed to mention all the extra things they did that were terrible (like pretending to be one of their own victims and making up a fictional friend they could blame the whole thing on), once again failed to take responsibility for their actions or apologize, and played into stereotypes about the neurodivergent and disabled communities, which makes me freaking livid.

COOP zine (edited by alliyah & Rook) still has ongoing calls for poetry and art related to chickens! That's right! You can get your wonderful chicken poetry published! You can check out the instructions and requirements here: https://coopzine.wordpress.com/

Also we are getting ready to publish a special edition that instead of being about chickens is entitled "Duck, Duck, Goose" so ... you guessed it! We are looking for duck and goose themed poetry and art! So if you have any of that (maybe from the search for the Golden Goose) check out our submission info over on our site.

If you have any questions or concerns contact myself or @Rook! We'd love to have more YWS authors and artists involved with our next issue~
