Today I learned that the average writer doesn't get a novel published until age 36 or so. I think a lot of us put a lot of pressure on ourselves to be perfect writers, (I sure do at any rate). But the vast majority of us are still young; not even halfway to that point. It's a liberating feeling, knowing that you've got plenty of time to grow and improve; that even if that one short story or poem didn't turn out quite as well as you wanted, there will always be time to make a better one soon. There's no rush to make it to the top; success will still be there when we're ready for it.

So, lately I've been reading 1984, which just so happens to have the original Big Brother as the leader of the country. It's kinda funny how our BB and the book's BB are pretty much exact opposites. For example, in the book, BB censors free speech, but on this site it's encouraged. Interestingly enough though, the main character in 1984 is actually helping perpetuate the government's lies by changing old newspaper articles, which could technically be considered a form of fiction, however unethical it may be. And a lot of us write fiction here too...
I'm not trying to make a conspiracy theory or anything, I was on the Unclassified side of things when our BB was threatened. I just think the juxtaposition is interesting, and wanted to point it out.
My word, this reads a lot more like an english paper than I intended. Oh well...

Welp. I just got my first rejection letter. Well, it was an email, but it still counts. I submitted a short story to a magazine a while back, and I finally heard back. At the time I thought it was good, but rereading it made me realize it wasn’t quite as incredible as I initially thought. That’s just the way it goes, I suppose. I already kinda knew this was gonna happen anyways, so it doesn’t really hurt... much.

I adopted a succulent plant from my mom the other day. She said they usually die under her care, so she has to buy a new one every couple of months. Now, I’ve been thinking of trying gardening for a while now, so I decided I’d take care of it to see if I have a green thumb. Anyways, my sister keeps asking me what I’m going to name the plant, cause I guess that’s just a thing we do, but I have no idea what to call it. Anyone here got any ideas?

I'm back online, just two and a half weeks later than expected. But hey, better late than never!

Think I'm gonna have to go offline for a little while, probably about a week. I've been putting too much pressure on myself to write, and trying to balance it and school and fun is getting to be too much. So I'm taking a little break, so that when I come back, I'll be able to be more productive, and hopefully have some better balance in my life.
Lib We'll miss you! <3 <3
