Excerpt of "Shadows of the Sun" for @ScarlettFire
September 19, 2152
Village of Coldbranch, Planet of Thessia
Colony of the Sol Dominion
Helena Cailin exited the Thessian Media Broadcasting vehicle, and scanned the area. She touched her hand to her lips. She was not very well accustomed to this type of scene. The crew was either setting up equipment, or looking around as she was. One of them checked the time, and told her she had five minutes. What is truly happening on Thessia? Helena asked herself. She didn’t have an answer besides the obvious. Minutes later, it was almost time to broadcast, so she made sure her clothes and hair were right.
“Ready?” the man who had alerted her just earlier asked from behind the camera, with a thumb up.
“Ready.” she replied, thumb up, with a slight smile. It was time to report.
“Good day; I’m Helena Cailin for Thessian Media Broadcasting. The civil war on Thessia will be concluding its second year soon enough, so many question what the next year shall bring--peace perhaps? There are promises of peace coming from Sol’s Presidential candidate.
However, the scene behind me in Coldbranch, a village near New Richtendorf, as you can see, is--is disheartening. Insurgent forces have really...demolished, everything. I am sorry, I am almost at a loss for words now. Thessian Guards, Sol loyalists, can be seen moving through the area. In many cases, they are still trying to identify the bodies, which they have covered already. They are also attempting to find out what prompted such actions against Coldbranch.
I can only say that the toll on both nature and humanity here is tragic. It will likely take months before this village recovers. As far as I can tell, no one wishes to stay. It's clear that for Coldbranch, ruins, debris, and gore have taken the place of homes, streets, and their occupants.
Helena Cailin; Thessian Media Broadcasting,” she concluded.

City of Saloria, Planet of Thessia
Colony of the Sol Dominion
Office of the Governor
Several rapid, hard knocks emanated from the other side of the door. Governor Scholl stopped what work she was doing and wondered what news couldn’t wait.
“Come in.” The door opened, and Governor Scholl’s personal assistant appeared, presenting a data page.
“Ma’am, you must see this!”
“What is it? I trust it was worth disturbing me?”
“Yes ma’am; few things would be more worthy. Just look!”
“...Oh...what are they doing? It says that the Licaeans are deploying to New Richtendorf! How--how can they even do that legally?”
“Well, it does say that they are ‘peacekeepers,’ but that is just it. Under the Dominion Security Initiative, the Dominion of New Licaea should not be allowed to deploy troops, ‘peacekeepers’ or not, without invitation or permission. Surely they know this…”
His attention, as well as the Governor’s, snapped to the door, as another senior member of the Governor’s staff came through the door. He was holding another data page in his hand, and only leaned inside the doorway.
“Governor, we just received a formal statement from the Licaeans--”
“Gather the relevant staff; we need to make sure everyone
understands what is happening here.”
