Alright ya'll, so I am fairly new here. I write poetry, lately have been on a massive writer's block. I need topics. To say the least, I don't necessarily write "happy" things. I want issues, anything anyone needs to get off their chest, talk about, vent, so on and so forth. However you need to express it, I want it. I often tie my poetry with art and music, so if there is a favorite song you enjoy, an art piece you dive into you want to combine it with, or you want to be wild and give me free will I'll honestly take anything. Help me out please XD
PS. And if this turns out well, and helps anyone in the future to have an anonymous person to vent too, I'll turn this into a weekly thing.

Has anyone done "Open-Mic Poetry Night" wherever they live?
I am a very, for lack of better terms, what I call an "Anti-Social Social Butterfly". My friend told me to go to an open-mic poetry night thing, but I have no idea where to look, let alone know anything about them. Are they anything like what I see in movies? XD
lliyah I have done an open mic & a poetry slam as well when I lived in bigger towns. If there is a college nearby they might be a good resource for finding them or else your local library or even search events on Facebook or "meetup" (an event app). Their vibes can differ a lot depending on the culture / location/ people. I think they are usually less bizarre and competitive than movies portray - usually people are pretty supportive of fellow writers because everyone mutually understands its a vulnerable thing to share your work. If there are open mics in your area I would 100% recommend doing one!

Mageheart ^ I second alliyah's comments on how nice open mics can be! The ones my university hosts are always warm and welcoming. Some people ask for critiques sometimes, but everyone is just so supportive that they just get compliments instead.

Heyyo, I’m Winter! I’m late, but welcome to YWS! : D
I’m one of the Junior Moderators on the site— that’s why my username is bright green! I help to run a certain section of the site, the Roleplays tab, but I’m also here to answer any and all questions you have, as well as just help you out and hang out! If you ever have any questions, anyone with a bright green or dark green username should be able to help— those are the global moderators!
I’d suggest hopping over to the Forums tab at the top of your screen, and going into the Welcome Mat! There are some introductions to the site, and it’s a great way to meet other people and begin to make friends with other writers! If you have any questions about the site in general, writing, or just want to talk, my messages are always open! And I’ll say it one more time— welcome to YWS!
~Winter <3
Hawinay Hello, and thank you for your welcome! Thank you for the invitation to the Welcome Mat, I will be sure to introduce myself to some other writers. Thank you for being available and I will be sure to ask if I have any questions.

winterwolf0100 Sounds great! I’m here to help in any way I can, but I’m also here to have fun, so if you’re ever interested in the forms of roleplaying that take place on YWS, they’re pretty unique and awesome!

Hi and welcome to YWS! I'm Mage. If you have any questions about YWS, let me know!
(And if I'm ever not online, junior moderators, global moderators and admins definitely would be able to help you out with any questions or concerns you have. Other YWSers would be happy to help you as well!)
Before you get settled in, you might want to swing by the rules thread to see what's allowed on the site, and the FAQ thread to figure out how the site works. It explains a lot about the basics of the site, like how to post your works and how to get points. It was really useful to me back when I first joined the site, so hopefully it'll be just as useful for you!
Some fun areas of the site you might want to learn more about are the forums, blogs and Roleplay Section. The forums have fun games, writing activities, and places to talk about whatever writing project you're working on. The blogs aren't used as much as the other sections of the site, but you can post little life updates there. And the Roleplay Section is a place to collaborate on stories—either by roleplaying or co-writing novel-style stories.
I hope you enjoy your time on YWS!
Hawinay Hello, and thank you for the welcoming and advice. It is greatly appreciated! I will of course let you know if I come across any confusion or questions that I need to be answered.

Hey Hawinay! Welcome to YoungWritersSociety!
My name's looseleaf (LZ if you want)! If you need any help navigating the site, feel free to ask me. Other junior moderators, global moderators, or an administrator would be happy to help you as well!
To start you off on your YWS journey, here's some handy-dandy links:
- following guidelines are important, so please stop by the FAQs and rules threads if you have the time.
- to earn points to post your own works, you have to review! the Green Room is a great place to start, since you get extra points for reviewing works in it!
- speaking of reviewing, writing good reviews is essential! the YWS CritiqueSandwichS'more explains how to write a good review.
- YWS has some very lovely people, so hop by the People's Tab to get to know them!
- sometimes YWSers get together in write-ins to write and discuss our writing! check out I'm Writing, Come Join Me! to see if any are currently running!
That's all I have for now! If you have any questions/thoughts/concerns, please feel free to PM me or any other moderators. Have a wonderful day!
- looseleaf =)

Hawinay Hello and thank you for offering any assistance! It's wonderful to see so many administrative people offer up help so quickly. I am not exactly a very confident people person, but I will be sure to swing by to say hello every now and then.
