  • She could hear her grandfather's head as she paced along.

probably not the strangest line I've come across when revising but still... it took me a sec to remember what that was supposed to be XD.

  • the best/worst part of plotting is when you think you have all the plot points and scenes and your just planning out the order and then you think of a new one... @_@

  • Barely into planning out chapters for the second draft of my novel and I can already see it's going to be sooo much longer the first...

  • Interesting thing I learned today: the difference between Capital and Capitol.
Capital can me a number of things (capital punishment; capital letters; the capital of a country).
Whereas Capitol only ever refers to a building or area that is related to government.

Quillfeather I always thought it was capitol punishment because it was against the government or something lol
    But it's capital

  • So I watched Wish (2023) the other day..
and now Myth thinks he's a film critic

enspoilered for length (not grammer or structure in the least).

    Spoiler! :

To be honest it impressed me. I suppose I was going into it assuming the worst based on what I’ve heard about it. But nonetheless I still think the plot is quite cool. The themes and general plot “idea” is quite good, I think the concept of giving away a part of yourself (your wish) in exchange for less worry creates some really cool avenues for conflict and interesting storylines. All the themes in general are far more complicated and grown-up than I’d expect Disney to try to deal with; I mean, in some way the story touches on: grief, ones calling, ease at the expence of meaning, revolutions, power… erm temptation, betrayal. I was pleasantly surprised.

Now, I was a bit disappointed with the queen. She was probably my favorite character; the way they have her at first siding with the king out of love, and then turning against him when he starts turning to (for lack of a better term) the dark side. It made for a very interesting internal conflict which I would’ve liked to have seen more of. In particular, I had an idea early on that perhaps they would save her decision to the very end, and at the climax (or maybe a sort of “sub-climax” right before the real one) when Magnifico was about to win she’d rush forward with a dagger or something and break his staff—making the right decision right when it counts. Instead they had her realise fairly early and just go help the “revolutionaries” which felt like a waste.

I mean the “princess” in this one was more or less the same as all the others, so a little unoriginal, but I suppose since this is supposed to be the “origin” story of the whole disney world it makes sense. I thought her friends were fairly original. The overly suspicious cynical one was humorous and made me think of snotlout from HTTYD he also gave me some inspiration for my own characters. And the fact that one of them needed a walking stick was a nice detail as it added some realism to the character. Also, despite being a tad unoriginal the goat was nonetheless very funny. And the guy (yea I can’t remember any of their names) who betrayed them and became an evil knight had cool motivations.
The animation was… interesting. I know they were trying to emulate the older 2D style and in the backgrounds it worked out very nicely (I thought the dungeon where Magnifico made his staff looked really good) but, the human characters often looked.. off. I’m chocking it up to the fact that this is the first time they’ve tried this kind of thing so they’re bound to mess it up a little.

I didn’t like the songs. They were far closer to Pop music than usual for Disney, and rarely seemed to be more than the characters talking “musically” while a simple chord progression played in the background. To be clear, I have nothing against music (or poetry) that doesn’t rhyme, its not a requirement and can still sound pleasing however the songs in this movie didn’t feel like that; they just felt lazy. At times it literally seemed like the characters were making up the lines as they went along, and then they’d hit upon a good chorus line and just start repeating it. There was no sophistication or reason to the lyrics they were just exposition about what the characters were feeling or thinking at the time with little rhyme or reason (pun intended). And in even in the better songs the Pop style clashed with the old-fashoined/throwback style the rest of the movie was going for.

In general the plot was predictable, however, a lot of the smaller details weren’t which (again) pleasantly surprised me. It’s not perfect, or as original as a number of other disney films however, I don’t think it deserves a lot of the hate I’ve seen it getting online, and is pretty good as their centennial celebration movie.

I haven’t looked into the rumours that Disney used A.I to write portions of the film.. but, suffice to say I sure hope they didn’t. But, if they did it would certainly explain some of the film's shortcomings.

  • Doing some plotting, and have just figured out that my novel takes place in the span of about a month.

Gotta remember to get the characters food and sleep in between days...

Just watched the latest bad batch and I'm quite glad Omega isn't gonna be a Jedi. It seems like that was what they were going to do for a while.

However, what would be really cool is if Crosshair turns out to be force-sensitive and figuring that out is how he fixes his hand.

happy cake dayyyy!! hope it was a fabulous one, Myth! :D

The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices; to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill, and suspicions can destroy. A thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own.
