Music plays such a fundamental role in my writing process. I have written entire stories based off one song - "Chase of the Untamed Maiden" to name an example.
Music is my lifeline to reviving inspiration if I hit a slump, and like magic can help conjure all sorts of new ideas. If you are searching for a writing playlist look no further because I have listed below various YouTube channels that create some of the best playlists I have ever heard. Enjoy!

** He is a composer who created all of the songs himself. I listened to them while reading the Throne of Glass series, which made it an even more immersive and especially emotional read than it already was. If you've read this series, you know what I mean. If you haven't, go read it.

MailicedeNamedy I enjoy listening to Peter Gundry's pieces. I can't remember which song it is, but I was captivated by it the first time I heard it.

MailicedeNamedy Yeah, that´s actually the best word to describe his music, "whimsical"! Thanks for the info. That really is a problem. Strange... I have the same problem with replies to reviews, then all the text disappears.

MailicedeNamedy I think it also depends on what your mood is. Sometimes I just want to watch something that makes me happy at the end, sometimes I just want to watch something that gives me chills. But is there any Ghibli film you would say isn´t as good as the others?

PoetryMisfit Yes exactly! Each movie carries it's own mood. Howl's Moving Castle is the movie I usually defer to when I want to unwind and just feel happy and I watch the Cat's Return when I want to laugh. I don't think I have an answer to your question because I love them all so much. Is there a film for you that you would say isn't as good as the others, or is there one that has made a considerable impact on you?

MailicedeNamedy To feel happy I usually watch Kiki´s Delivery Service, My Neighbour Totoro or From Up on Poppy Hill. The Cat Returns is such a cute film, I wish they would make some sequels with the Baron. Over the years I came to love the film Only Yesterday. I think despite watching it later than most of the other films (I mostly grew up with Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke and Nausicaä) it had a bigger impact on me, to enjoy life and think in a more positive manner and also to follow sometimes your heart, not just your brain.
Yeah, it´s really hard to give an answer to it, but I would say When Marnie was There. It is on its own a beautiful film, but I grew up with the book and think they did a great job of making a film out of it, but it´s still not the same as the book. So it would probably be on Rank 1.5 And after reading the manga Nausciaä I say that it is way better than the film, even if I really love her voice in the german version. It is really hard to decide... Is there any soundtrack you really like?

PoetryMisfit Many of the films you listed I think are some of Miyazaki's more underrated pieces. I love your take away from Only Yesterday, because honestly that movie seems to get overlooked a lot, but it is really beautiful. Like I said before, Miyazaki has such an amazing ability of drawing the beauty and the whimsy from the most mundane moments or stories. I say mundane because his other films in comparison are so immersed in the realm of fantasy.
I also appreciate the connection made between The Cat Returns and Whisper of the Heart through the Baron.
As for your answer regarding which of the films you like the least, honestly the movies are never as good as the books in my opinion. I didn't even know that When Marnie Was There was based on a book either, but then again so was Howl's Moving Castle, which was based on a novel by the same name.
That is such a good question, and I would have to say Princess Mononoke's soundtrack is my favorite and it's one that I play often for inspiration when I'm writing. I love the soundtrack for its dramatic flair and the swell of emotion it procures. However, when I want music to chill to I listen to the lofi compilations of all the different soundtracks on Youtube.
Did you know there is a song I found that is based Kiki's Delivery Service? I saw you listed that movie as being one that makes you feel happy so I think you will appreciate this song. If you want to give it a listen, it is called Kiki's Song by Mree. Which of the movie soundtracks is your favorite? Also, if you could jump into the world from any of the movies, which one woud it be?

MailicedeNamedy Yes, I think the films that have more of a "Japanese" feel tend to be overlooked in the West, yet I find these exactly beautiful and compelling.

Oh yeah, When Marnie was There I think is from the 60s. I only have the book because it belonged to my grandmother. I've read Howl's Moving Castle, but the book is quite different from the film, especially from the second half onwards. But both are really good. That's true, the film adaptations are rarely good, I only had the impression when I saw a film before the book that it was somewhat equal.

Princess Mononoke's soundtrack is wonderful. You took the words right out of my mouth. It has such an alternating effect between emotion and danger that it sometimes gives me goosebumps just listening to the soundtrack.
Again, it's so hard to judge, but I think there are so many individual tracks that I like, like The 6th Station from Spirited Away, Merry-Go-Round from Howl's Moving Castle, that one tune that's from Castle in the Sky where Pazu and Sheeta are in the mines learning about the crystal, the Main Theme of Only Yesterday and another one from the film, etc... I could probably go on for a bit longer, but I'll settle on Whisper of the Heart. It has such a naive, youthful feel to it that I just love. Kiki's Delivery Service also has a wonderful soundtrack where I love every single track. I've probably forgotten to list half of them...
Kiki's song is really beautiful. I just listened to it. It's wonderful. Oh, I listen to Ghibli soundtracks far too rarely.

Another hard question! I would either want to jump in Kiki's Delivery Service or Howl's Moving Castle. I think I'd probably be happiest there. What about you? And what was the first Ghibli film you saw?

PoetryMisfit I can't believe you read both of those books, that is amazing! I heard about the book being pretty different from the film too for Howl's Moving Castle. The Whisper of the Heart soundtrack is amazing and I think youthful is a good term to describe it. I love how Country Roads gets incorporated as the intro song and the ending song, because it is in a way what brought the two love interests of the film together. The song plays such an incredible role in the film as it relates to Shizuku's writing, and the lyrics she comes up with are beautiful. I'm so glad you like the song I sent you!
Similar to you, I would love to jump into the world from Howl's Moving Castle and explore all the places mentioned in the film. I would also love to jump into the world from Spirited Away because the spiritual realm she ventures to has always fascinated me and I want to know what else there is to discover. I would just need to make sure I have the magic needed to not disappear.
Oh my gosh, I think the first Studio Ghibli film I saw was Spirited Away. At the time I think I was in high school and hardly knew anything about Studio Ghibli. That film was like a gateway drug for me and I want on a binge spree through the whole collection. That honestly feels like forever ago. What about you? And here's a random question: where do you draw inspiration from for your writing?
