Faith - Mirror's Edge

A request from murtuza, thank you so much x) I really enjoyed doing this one!

I have never played this game before, but from what I found it looks awesome!! The pose I chose to draw her is isn't that original, it's basically taken from an image of her running arcoss rooftops. I tried to include all of her signature features, like the tattoo under her eye. Hopefully this looks accurate enough!

24-year-old Faith Connors earns her living as a "Runner", a courier who carries physical communiqués around the city, her services retained by revolutionary groups who avoid communicating via highly-monitored telephone and e-mail channels. Faith's attitude towards the totalitarian government is rooted in her past; her parents were active in protest movements when she was young, campaigning to keep the city from shifting to the oppressive regime. Her mother was killed during the "November riots" — peaceful protests gone wrong — and Faith ran away from home when she was 16, living a thief's life on the city streets. Faith became a Runner after meeting Mercury (or Merc), a former Runner who now trains new hires, sources jobs for them, and provides them with intelligence and radio support while on the job.

Haha, I've not played the game either but the character design really does stand-out. You've captured a lot of elements that make this similar related to the actual franchise. It's got that minimalist background look with the dominant white colouring everywhere and that fast-paced image of her doing parkour.

You make hair look so nice. I mean, in all of your drawings, the hair is just beautiful. And with the hair being one of the main characteristic features that helps identify a particular character from any media, you've done a great job with getting her look right. Her outfit looks great. I especially like the pants. You've given it some subtle texture and shadow and that makes it all the more appealing. You've managed to capture that tattoo of hers too and not made it too obscured, but just slightly hinted on it. The eyes are cool. Very cool. The face too looks almost the same as Faith's. I also like the satchel and how similar it looks to the poster too! ^.^

Now, my first impression when I saw this was that even though the character seemed correct through all the aspects that you've drawn out, there were a couple of features that made her look a bit different from the actual character. Her arms and her legs are a bit chubby. Perhaps what went wrong with the pants was that you've drawn them with the curvy features of the legs when actually, they are just slightly baggy and don't really take the shape of the legs. Similarly, her arms look really muscular. (Maybe thicker is the word?) More than they should be because she's actually got slender, thin arms and here they look quite brawn-y. Also, her feet (characterized), don't really look like they are firmly pressed against the landscape and it almost looks like she's wobbling out of control for a moment. Her right shoe doesn't seem to be positioned well. In-fact, her whole right leg seems a bit dis-oriented. I've also noticed that I can't seem to find any slight hint of her tattoo on her right-hand. Also, it looks like her right arm doesn't have an elbow because of the arm-band and of its size and shape.

Somethings that would provide some more atmosphere to the image would be a sort of motion-blur effect at certain parts of the outlines of her body to give us that depth of scene. Also, a plain white background is simple and really gives the subject full reason to be noticed. But don't hesitate to add in some subtle shading to the background like her shadow on the walls or perhaps some lighting coming off at the corner or something like that. Because that way, when there are a some noticeable flaws from the subject itself, it draws out attention from that and makes the entire image look seemingly perfect. But in the end, the decision, it's really up to you.

I can instantly recognize who you were trying to draw and the whole picture comes to mind to its fullest because you've managed to capture a few of the features quite well from the original. The colouring that you've applied for the subject is great and really identical to the actual character. Thank you so much lot for fulfilling my request, Blacky. I absolutely love Faith and more than that, your interpretation of her I love even more. (Special kudos to you since you didn't initially know much about the character in the first place. )
