Hey, I'm Horizon. If you don't want to call me that, then that's ace, as you can just shorten it to "Izon" (I would say Hor, but... obvious implications...). I've been writing for as long as I can remember and short stories are my forte in English class, though I do have a history of presenting strong essay- and poetry-writing skills as well.
Unfortunately, in the past two years or so - since I completed my first, and only, novel in NaNo '09 - I've lost this passion for writing that I once felt. I turned to playing nonsense chord progressions and ugly little rhythms on my guitars to pass time, rather than continuing my pursuit of a writing career. So I've come to the Young Writer's Society to try and regain my passion for the creative energy that surrounds literature, the energy that made novels like JRR Tolkein's the Hobbit my best friend throughout my childhood.
A little more about me, physically: I'm a sixteen year old girl, 5'6'' and working to get into a more fit form. Although I haven't shed any pounds since I began working out, I have slimmed up a bit and put on some tone - not that I'm toned, mind you... but compared to what physical shape I used to be in, I guess I'm decent. I'm a bit broad-shouldered and my hips aren't quite wide enough to compensate for that. I have what most would call "thunder thighs", but I call "hours of pure, fat-jiggling entertainment" (really... if you're bored, just shake out those jelly-filled tummies or legs of yours... the result can be pretty amusing). My skin has a red undertone and I come across as a fair little Irish girl, but after working as a counselor at a summer camp for eight weeks this summer my arms have developed a tan to beat my friend's Italian skin. I'm rather proud of my tan lines, too... I guess one could argue that I look Bride-of-Frankenstein-esque, but I don't really care. I wear multiple home-made hemp and embroidery thread bracelets on either wrist, totalling seventeen at the end of the summer, though now I only have five left. I'm addicted to rings, switching out my golden heart band with a giant amethyst stone or an Indigo Power Ring of Compassion (if I'm feeling up to the task of protecting the world that day... Green Lantern fans, you got me). My hair lands just under my breasts and has a few natural waves where it touches my body. It is thick and tangled and has adopted a shade of light brown from my time spent in the sun this past summer, though usually I'm not quite this light-haired. My bangs are chopped straight across, just beneath my eyebrows and just above my eyes, earning me the nicknames "Feist" and "Gaga" from my thirteen-year-old sister (who also insists on calling me a "freak of nature" for liking Pokemon and Zelda, might I add). My eyes are an Irish blue surrounded by a long, dark fringe of eyelashes that I've recently decided need a little more than the natural, God-given oomph I've had since childhood. Mascara and eyeliner are now a daily essential for me. If there were make-up that could make my nose appear a bit smaller, I'd want someone to hook me up with some of that because my eyes are a little close together and my lips a little small so I guess one day my nose just decided to take up all that empty space on my face. I have the beak of bird, I swear. But I'm good with it. I'm not especially full of self-esteem, but I'm confident enough to get out of bed each morning, throw on my khaki capris and a gray tee, and head off to school with my guitar, clarinet, and bright red backpack in tow.
Enough about looks - after all, in today's sexualized culture, where everyone is encouraged to be different, by God, looks don't matter... or that's what, you know, the media tells you whilst simultaneously throwing out edited images of Megan Fox and Sofia Vergara (bless the second one, she's hilarious)... Aaanyways, enough. A few things I enjoy are guitar-playing, writing, reading, painting, chemistry, math, psychology, the whole nine yards. At this point, a month into grade twelve, my highly-achievable career goal is as a Psychologist, but my real aspirations are finding a self-funding hobby in the music or writing businesses. Also, I think Pokemon and Zelda are excellent games, Game Cube forever, people are too sensitive, teenagers cry too much, "broken hearts" are easily mended by the next boy who shows up at the doorstep, Facebook sucks but is too addicting, orange is an orange-gasmic colour (see what I did there?), and BOOOOOOSH! is probably the greatest saying ever invented.
So yeah... that's a pretty ace introduction, I guess. I'll be seeing you all in a bit, feel free to message... eh?
Thanks.
