Chapter FIVE: Stubborn WOLVES
LOCATION: The Park+ Home
As the park came into view in front of me the safe happy feeling came over me but today it was joined by something else. I was so nervous about meeting Tyrone here. Why? I’m not sure, but all I remembered was his handsome face and our kiss. I walked into the gates and looked around for Tyrone. I checked my watch; 4:05 okay so I was five minutes late. I was running late today, but he wouldn’t have left already, would he?
“Hey! Lily over here” The voice came from behind me as I turned I could see Tyrone jogging over through the gates. He was wearing a tight grey undershirt which pronounced his stomach muscles and a pair of baggy jeans the type were you could see his underwear. I strangely started to turn red.
“Sorry I’m late, you haven’t been waiting long have you?” He asked with a put on smile.
“No, I’ve just got here myself” I answered.
“Gimme” He demanded holding out his hand. I went into my back pocket of my jeans and pulled out his stolen Iphone.
“You stole it didn’t you?” I asked putting the white brick into his hands.
“What’s it to you? So... You hungry?” He asked.
“No and it’s everything to do with me” I said
“Wait... you’re turning down food?”
“Aye, I just had the biggest breakfast in the world; I’ll be good for the rest of the day”
“Okay than” He mumbled, he didn’t believe me.
“What?” I asked. Why was he being funny with me? What had I done? He’s funny with everyone Lils don’t forget that you’re nothing special to him. I signed. Why? Did I want to be?
“Nothing, take a walk?” He asked.
“Okay then sure” It was awkward at first, we didn’t know what to talk about; I’d never been alone with him before, apart from yesterday. Any of the boys to be honest, they had never came to find me either. I had always gone to find them. Tyrone was on my territory now.
“What did Jared want to talk to you about?” I asked as lightly as possible, whatever they were talking about it had been about something Tyrone was not likely to share with me.
“Nothing much” Tyrone said. Yep, he wasn’t going to tell me.
“You’re one of the same” I said remembering the conversation I had with Jared just the night before. Tyrone’s cocked his head and looked at me with confused eyes.
“What do you mean?”
“You and Jared are one in the same”
“I get that bit!” He said laughing slightly “What do me and Jared have in common?” I was enjoying annoying him actually I carried it on.
“Actually I would like to remind you that in my presence I enjoy the use of proper grammar” I said deliberately sticking my nose out the way Tyrone always complained about and walking slightly quicker so he fell behind. “It’s Jared and I, not me and Jared” I could feel his disbelief from behind me I kept it up for another two minutes as he slowly came to a stop and I turned around I couldn’t help it I burst into a fit of giggles. I can’t believe he fell for it.
“What? Oh ha ha ha, very funny Lily” he said in a snarky voice, he came over to me and gave a little shove. I slowly rocked backwards as I he shoved me I held onto his arm to keep balance. “You know I hate those posh pricks” He brought me up to his face holding me close to him. He slowly walked backwards heading towards the shade.
“So what do Jared and I have in common then? Is it our bad grammar?” His face was dangerously close to mine. He said it in a whisper. His black eyes gentle as he bared them into mine. They weren’t as dazzling as Nathanial’s but they shone in their own dark, sexy way.
“No actually Jared has very good grammar” I whispered with a chuckle.
“Really? I must be such a disappointment” He used his arms to push me away his dark eyes moving away from mine cold again, his wards returning.
“Hey” I asked catching his hand “What’s up? What did I say?”
“Nothing, it wasn’t anything you said”
“Who said it then?” but it was too late Tyrone was heading towards the exit of the park and wasn’t looking back. “Tyrone!” I shouted. Not grammar, your both stubborn Idiots. Would he make up his mind! Did he like me? Did he hate me? Why was he being difficult all the time?
“Hello Lily, looks like someone’s been a very naughty girl today” Nathanial’s magical voice came out of nowhere. He was suddenly in front of me grinning. I jumped back in a hurry. How was he that quick? “Nate?” I asked my head spinning slightly “What do you-” I stopped as his shinning blue eyes filled with a sudden rage. It looked like he was going to hit me. My eyes widened.
“No one calls me Nate” He wasn’t shouting, he was whispering. He stared his eyes into mine the rage spilling out of them. I actually shut my eyes to get out of his eye line. It was terrifying. I could hear the low thump of his footsteps as he walked towards me. I could feel his arms fitting around my waist, taking me into an embrace. The side of his face brushed mine and I gasped, flying my eyes open. He whispered into my ear. His voice was no longer magical it was as if someone else was speaking, the devil, a scary mutant ninja thing, something that shouldn’t exist for the good of all mankind. He threw back his head and laughed, a couple of girls looked over from their picnics and to his butt. Disgusting. He had said “not even my brother’...

I stood next to the door; the music that blasted through was (not surprisingly) Britney Spears I signed. Mum was having a party. There was no way I was stepping inside there, not when she told me specifically that I was not invited. Not that I wanted to see a drunk mum dancing around with a bunch of twenty year old men looking for sex no matter where they got it from. I had no choice; I was going to have to see the boys. Ever since Tyrone left me there in the park fury filled me. Nobody left me. Nobody. I was sick and tired of people thinking they could leave me behind.
Not anymore. I was going to the bridge and demand to know what Tyrone was thinking when he left me in the middle of a public park. I was also going to see if the rest of the boys were all right. The thought of Nario brought tears to my eyes.
Everything is going to be okay... but for once in my life, I wasn’t sure it was going to be. I was scared of what Tyrone would say. Something inside me panicked. I didn’t like it. I wanted for him to say he was never going to leave me again that he was going to stay with me and protect me forever. Why? I wasn’t sure. I had only ever protected myself... and no one else but the boys, sometimes. I signed as I stepped onto the pavement.
Bag... check, knife... check and money... check. This was the daily routine I would recite before leaving the council flats. The most important thing was my knife strapped into my boot where I could easily get it if an attacker foolishly decided to attack. I studied the area before leaving looking for suspects. Bingo. A group of youths not much older than me where leaning against the corner of my building they were all wearing the much loved hoodies and blue bandanas... crud, they were in a gang, the ‘ghetto boys’ to be exact, they had over 200 members and they had killed before... nobody liked them. I couldn’t see their faces. This bothered me. I didn’t like not seeing an attackers face. If they were a threat to me anyway, I decided that I wasn’t going to let a gang of youths ruin the rest of my night. Not that it was going to be fun anyway. I needed to have a good rant at Tyrone without trouble and for that I needed a well rehearsed script. I needed to concentrate on making Tyrone feel as guilty as possible. With my head held high I swept passed them deliberately missing their eye contact.
“Hey wait up!”
So not what I wanted, keep going don’t look back. I did just that. I could faintly see the sun setting in the distance. Different colours where leaping out. Pinks, yellows and orange’s filling the sky making it seem super natural, different from the normal blue cloudy sky of Glasgow.
“Hey! Aren’t you the slut Cathy Woods’s daughter?” I turned on my heels.
“What did you just say?” I sneered; I let my eyes go cold. I could see the littler boys surprise as he looked into my eyes. A feeling of guilt trickled over me as I thought of Pierce. I shook the feeling away and brought my eyes back to coldness.
“Have a thing for little boys do you?” The bigger one said with a smirk as he looked from the boy to me.
“Yes” I sneered coldly. The little boy seemed scared; he didn’t want to be there. I felt suddenly guilty again.
He’s not going to last if he keeps this up.
“We want booze” The older one said. My head snapped back to him. He was using the little boy as a bargaining tool? I felt a protective instinct take over me as I thought of Pierce.
“Yeah” I answered “Speak for yourself” I added turning my back on them. A voice I didn’t recognise spoke up.
“Hey we do!” I turned round it was the second oldest boy who spoke, he looked about fifteen and defensive.
“Okay” I sneered. I wasn’t scared of them. I didn’t have any Alcohol. It turned decent boys to wreaks, it was nothing but vile.
“I said we want some booze” The older one demanded again.
“Well I don’t have any”
“Good” The little boy said “We can get it somewhere else. Bro let’s go” He took his brothers arm to pull him back.
“Shut up freak” The older boy snarled pushing him backwards.
“Leave him alone at least he has sense. You do not want to mess with me tonight” the older boy laughed.
“Never will I be afraid of a girl” He said it with disgust. How could someone be so young yet be so angry at the world? Tyrone suddenly passed my mind, my heart sped.
“Look, all we want is to get into your ma’s party” The second boy said standing over the eldest.
“I’m not even invited. My ma hates me. She’s not going to do anything I ask” The oldest boy stepped forward coming closer to me. I had kept a nice distance between us. He was threatening that. He was walking towards me with a boyish grin that wasn’t friendly but savage. I stood my ground not taking a step back. Never show weakness. He was close to my face, as close as Tyrone had been before he kissed me.
“Now if you’re not letting us in to the party you could bring the party down here”
“What do you mean?” I asked shakily. Not good. A slip of fear rang in my voice. He chuckled a dark laugh. His hands were suddenly around me slipping down. I tried to jump back but he just laughed.
“Not so brave now are we?” He slipped his hand under my shirt and touched my bare back. His hands felt so cold. Before I knew it he was going for my bra. Crud no, tears stung my eyes, I have to get away, but suddenly with a gasp he fell to the ground. I screamed and jumped back. The youngest boy was standing directly in front of me, he brought his knee down and was staring wide eyed at his older brother who was on the floor gasping. The older boy was breathily fiercely and looked up at me. He suddenly leapt at me.
“You little bitch” My head hit the floor and my vision went blotchy. I felt strong arms straddle me down as I kicked and screamed. Suddenly a fear hurdled scream leapt at us. The boy on top of me looked behind him for the source of the noise and I kicked him off. I turned back towards the little boy and I couldn’t believe my eyes.
In front of me was a wolf, a full blown wolf. That’s right a wolf. It just stood there looking directly at the older boy with mean cold black eyes and snarled. Its shinning white teeth were bared.
Scary... white... teeth...RUN!
I was about to run in till I saw the little boy staring mouth wide at the wolf. He was standing in front of the wolf close enough to touch it.
“Slowly walk backwards” I called. The little boy couldn’t move. He’s legs were shaking wildly. He was going to fall and soon. I sucked a breath in. The wolves’ eyes softened slightly as it looked over towards me. Its eyes were strangely familiar?
It nodded its head (I think) and jumped over the little boy to the screaming older one. I found myself running. Running towards the little boy, I took his hand into mine and ran. The little boy could barely keep up. Running was harder than I had originally thought but it’s not like I could turn back. Not with a large and angry wolf behind me. The little boy was dragging behind. I stopped when we hit an underpass and I turned towards the boy.
“What’s your name?” I asked, I gave him a little smile, trying to give the impression that seeing a huge wolf was normal. He wasn’t convinced.
“Are you kidding me? Did you see that wolf? Yes that wolf?” he aked. “What about my brother or have you forgotten about him too?”
“Oh I’m sorry but your brother and I arn’t on good terms right now” I gave him a sharp look and he even looked slightly apologetic.
“Do you think he’s going to be okay?” all I had to do was look at him. “Oh no, what am I going to do?” He sank to the floor and put his head into his hands. On the plus side the wolf hadn’t followed us but on the downside the whole place smelt like urine.
“What’s your name?” I repeated He looked at me with disbelief “What’s your name?” I demanded this time.
“Tameron”
“Right Tameron my name is Lily, it’s very nice to meet you”
“What?”
“My name is Lily and It’s very nice to meet you” he shook his head in disbelief. “Don’t look at me like that! You helped me therefore I will try to return the favour”
“What do you mean I helped you?”
“You kneed your brother for me right?”
“Yeah but that was only because he was being stupid” I laughed.
“Who was being stupid?” A familial voice rang in echoes.
“Oh mother of Jesus” I gasped
“Why that’s not nice, I’ve never been mistaken as a women... let alone a virgin”
I immediately got to my feet and stared at Nathaniel. He wore a simple smile and didn’t seem offended by my lakes attitude by seeing him.
“What the hell are you doing here? This doesn’t strike me as your part of town” He sniggered. He was wearing his usual plain top, bagged jeans and confident expression.
“You’ll be surprised” He looked over at Tameron and laughed. “Hey look the circus has really invaded this town hasn’t it?” he smiled and gave Tameron a sudden startled look. “Oh, you’re too young I guess, don’t worry I’ll get you at some point just like the rest of ‘em”
“Oh my god what are you talking about? If you’re going to bully someone bully me he’s just a kid leave him alone” Nathaniel shrugged.
“I suppose it’s no different than school, your life is it?”
“and so it begins” I turned towards Tameron. “I’m sure you can find your way home from here?”
“Aye” He said standing up and giving me a cold look “Hopefully I will never see you again. I’m going to find my brother” He stalked off in the opposite direction.
“Oh, you English Pricks are all the same” I turned and poof, Nathanial was gone. I stared into the yellow mistiness of the underpass I was alone. I turned and hurried away, my back to the gloomiest place in the United Kingdom.
