Feedback on feedback.

I love getting long and thoughtful critiques on my work, and I always make it a habit to thank the critiquers and tell them what I thought about their feedback. I think knowing how much you appreciate their opinions encourages people to read more of your work.

Have you ever spent so much time and effort on a critique and then had it go completely unacknowledged? I know that most people tend to just return the favor, but it's always great to have your critiques acknowledged, even if it's just a simple "Thank you."

So does it matter to you guys if you get feedback on your feedback, regardless of whether or not you get a critique returned?

I can relate to that, I always thank(or at least try) people for comments, likes an follows.
Sometimes I actually feels like I'm really not doing hard enough, after the amazing comments I got on occasions, a mere 'thank you' felt unappreciative, so I think everyone should at least have the decency to do that.
But if someone doesn't, I'm sure that person has got a good reason, so I don't mind.

It's nice to get feedback, but I don't really require it unless someone requested feedback from me. In that case, it's just rude to not even say "Thank you".

Sometimes though, people might forget to respond, but if you check back on the work, you'll find that they edited and took some of your suggestions to heart. That's feedback enough, in my opinion.

I guess it bothers me because I spend some time on another forum where people always give feedback on critiques. I think it builds better connections between members and encourages people to critique more. But you're right - the important thing is knowing they used your advice to improve.

I love when somebody says "thank you" or responds to the details of a critique because it feels like I've actually helped them Otherwise you don't know if they took your advice or think you're an idiot.

On the other extreme, I don't like people giving you a reason why they're going to disregard everything you said. This is a peer-review site after all, and you shouldn't be putting things up unless you want somebody to give you their honest opinion. But a happy medium is good, in fact, I love it when the author disagrees with me on some parts but not others! I'm such a weirdo like that. But it shows that they know their strengths and their weaknesses and I think as a reviewer that's something that's good to see.

I absolutely agree with you. You should always be grateful for someone taking the time to give you their honest opinion, even if it's not what you want to hear. And writers should be able to take what they think they need and what they don't need. I think giving feedback on feedback gives you the opportunity to to defend your writing if you need to. Not by lashing out and saying something like, "You're wrong! You're an idiot!" Of course not that way - that would ensure that you never get a review again. Just kindly explaining why someone's advice does or doesn't work for you could change their perspective on the piece, or it may not. But I still think it's important to reply to a critique, either way.
