{Photography}

Well, most of these pictures are landscapes. I just was wondering what you guys think.
Unfortunately, I understand that some of the pictures may haven been taken slightly crooked. I am sorry. I am not a level person.

These were taken last summer, when I went up North with my family. Some of the pictures were taken when I was in the boat just waiting for me, being clumsy, to drop the camera into the water, losing it forever to the great, murky waters of the lake. Most of them were spur of the moment, but other times, they were more contemplated.











And here is a picture of the waterfalls close to the lake I was at. This river actually, is a branch off the four lakes that are all connected.



Well, that is about it. Tell me what you think about them. Also, if you have any tips on how to improve my new developing photography skills, please tell me.

These pictures are super gorgeous! Right now I live in a place with no trees...but I used to live in Wisconsin, so that's definitely a familiar sight. I love the one of the sunset, especially. It looks like it should be a postcard.

One tip, though: many of these photos look super light. It's best to take photographs outside when it's a) overcast or b) at a time when the sun is lower in the sky (early morning, or late afternoon). If you can't wait that long, or want a spur of the moment shot, you can also go in and edit them in Photoshop/iPhoto/whatever you use to get that beautiful, saturated color that comes with a darker photo.

I'll go through each photo for you

1 - For me this isn't a very exciting photograph. I think you could stand to have less water in this photo and for me there is no real subject or focal point to this photo. Which is something you need to think about when you take photographs and how you might make the composition of the photograph, emphasise the subject of your photo. Here you are not really leading me through the photograph and so I don't know what to look at. However I do like the light and the colours in this photograph

2 - As you say this one is slightly crooked. I have this problem sometimes when I take photos of lakes. I don't know why but sometimes it just makes me go a bit wonky, horizon wise lol I love the light glinting off the water though and the framing of the greenery in the corner. If the boat (or whatever it is) in the photo is your subject it could probably be framed better but the light is awesome.

3 - Again I don't feel that this is a very exciting photograph, there is no focal point and nothing leading me through the photo. It sort of seems like a 'I was here' photograph. I do like how you caught the bend in the lake thought that is cool And the shrubs in the foreground in the bottom left corner. When I take photographs, sometimes I try and layer it up to make the photograph more interesting. So think of your photographs of having different fields, the foreground, the mid-ground and the background. Arranging elements in these fields for me often make the photograph more interesting and can lead the viewer through the photo.

4 - This is my favourite one! The light is AMAZING. I love the tree that is on the right handside of the frame and goes up into the sky, without that the photo may be less good because it would mainly be a sky photo. I love the mirroring of the light in the pond/lake and how this water is ringed on all sides by plants. Good job!

5 - I'm not sure what camera you have but it looks as though your camera may have a digital zoom and you used it for this photograph. I had a digital zoom on my old camera and I used to use it so I could take photos of birds that were far off. The problem is that whenever you use the digital zoom, you lose an amazing amount of image quality, which I think is what happened here. As a rule I always tried not to use the digital zoom.

6 - I love waterfalls! lol I have a passion for them It would be a cooler photo if you could have gotten to the bottom of the waterfall and taken a photo looking up. At the moment it is kind of lost in all the greenery around. The light looks sort of weird as well. But it is good that you have framed the waterfall to the side. The composition is quite interesting.

I think when you take photographs, you need to think about how you are composing that photograph. What your focal point is, what is the thing you are taking a photo of? And how can you make it stand out? Also I think you need to think about the people who are going to be looking at your photograph and how you can lead them through the photograph and show them what to look at

Hope I wasn't too harsh! I'm just trying to help but if you feel disheartened feel free to tell me off lol Just keep going! The sunrise/sunset photo shows that you do have potential! Just keep taking photographs

In relation to what Sam said, you can actually change the aperture of your camera and that determines how much light you let into you camera and makes the photo darker or lighter and you can do that when you are out photographing. Rather than waiting for the right light or mucking about on photoshop.

Thanks guys. I am still unfortunately trying o figure out how to use my camera, after two whole years. It is a digital camera, so I understand. They are kind of boring I think. I just love taking pictures of landscapes. I will try not to use my digital zoom.

Hey I still have no idea how my camera works and I have been using it for about 4 years lol I don't think I will ever understand how to use everything on my camera I just go out and take photographs of what I see.

You seem really disheartened...I hope I didn't upset you. You do have talent So please don't stop taking photos or let anyone ever stop you taking photographs. If you love photographing then keep doing it, please.

I am surely not disheartened! I know I am a clutz with the camera even before. I was making fun of myself before too when I actually posted it. I will certainly keep taking pictures.

You weren't at all harsh! I can take critism. I actually asked for help in the first place! I wasn't looking for the 'Oh that is great!' because if I was, I certainly wouldn't be posting on this site. I am disheartened when you see the '...' after I say something usually. I am actually chuckling right now.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I forgot that people can't really hear your voice through the computer screen. It is funny, when someone uses sarcasm on the computer, I always believed what they said. I never question the motives.

I like this photos, especially the 1st, 3rd and 4th. I like those best because the other ones have too much light in the lens. It's too bright! Early morning and sunset pictures are personally best, but as long as the light isn't too bright, it's fine.
