Farewell

Today is your birthday and I wish you the best
World’s greatest grandpa should be tattooed onto your chest
You’re a great example and role-model to all
Your life is an inspiration even though it hasn’t been a ball

You have made many tough decisions in your life
God even took away your first wife
But with each burden comes a blessing in return
So God restored your life as if looking after a fern
He blessed you with a beautiful new partner
A few grandchildren you received shortly after
With your new family many memories were made
And locked inside your heart where they have stayed.

We have shared a lot together
There have been times when you have felt under the weather
Unfortunately this time it is quite bad
The thought of me losing you makes me sad
All I can do is appreciate you more
And love you so much that it becomes sore
I’ll hold onto the memories and good times we’ve shared
And make sure that they are kept in my head

I’ll pray that I don’t get a disease in my brain
In fear that I might lose you again
I love you so much and I wish you didn’t have to go
But you’ll go to heaven, this I know

I hope your birthday is a blast
And much better than the 67 you’ve had in the past
May you be spoilt until you can’t anymore
I hope this birthday will be better than any birthday you’ve had before

We are all here to celebrate you
It’s not a lot of people it’s only a few
But these few people have gathered to say
That they love you and will carry on doing so every single day

This is quite a touching peace of poetry that I really liked. I never knew any of my grandparents (from my dad side and mom side) because they all passed away before I was born. Well, actually, my grandmother from my dad's side didn't die until maybe after I graduating..but I never met her either. So I can't really relate a lot to your work personally, but that doesn't mean that I didn't feel the emotion you were trying to convey.

I just had one tiny little problem with the poem. The "God took your first wife away" part seems a little harsh, although you later sweetened it up by saying "God gave you another wife". Anyway, I'm not really a religious person, but I do believe in God and it's a bit annoying when someone dies that people will say that "God took them away". God doesn't kill...it's disease, murder, and et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. It's just a small problem though and I don't think you meant for it to sound the way that I did.

Aww... what a very touching piece! You are lucky enough to see your grandparents. Me? My grandparents died when I was still very young that I can't even remember their faces.

This has to be possibly one of the sweetest poems I've ever read. My heart melted. It really did. You must be very close to your Grand Father and I'm sure he is very fond of this poem. The poem has good rhyming structures so I've got no problem with that. I find it interesting that you mention God and Heaven a couple of times, as this isn't really a religious poem at all. It makes me feel that you are expressing your Love to your Grand Father in a way that suggests that you believe he is the kindest person on the planet. And again that is very sweet. I really love:
