Spoiler
Inspired by North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. If you have not seen the BBC mini-series (and you happen to love Austen/Dickens or period films in general) YOU HAVE TO SEE IT. And if the book is for sale in your country (buy me a copy and send me one because it's not sold in mine) then you have to buy it and read it nownownow. I literally turned my University library upside down to borrow a copy. Anyway, I loved Mr. Thornton more than Mr. Darcy, and I swear that says something of how GOOD the book and series is.

She was a gentle breeze to him,
a breath of summer air;
the only solace he could find
in frozen winter glare.

In her cheeks the roses bloomed,
when all around was frost;
in her eyes the fires burned
though warmth to all was lost.

With her eyes, she thawed the heart
encased in ice and snow;
with her smile she warmed him up
and set his soul aglow.

He took her hands and pressed her close,
to breathe her summer air;
but when he strove to read her heart,
he found but winter there.
All that I'm after is a life full of laughter, as long as I'm laughing with you.:)

Sorry to quote it all, but I simply cannot choose a favourite stanza. It was short in length of the poem, stanzas, and in sentances, but that's what made it perfect. I loved the imagery, and your descriptive writing. I want to read the book now! :D

A short poem about someone, I can't help but wonder who she is... (naturally, i've never seen the show.)
A nice simple poem, thank you for the post.
Simple metaphors and simple descriptions: a simple poem.
Thank you once again.

Damn, this is amazing. I loved how the entire poem was a sort of metaphor. Or at least that's how I saw it. The girl is warmth, happiness, summer. She brightens up this boy's life. I'd had to say my favourite part was the ending though.
but when he strove to read her heart,
he found but winter there.

This part. FANTASTIC. This is just my way of looking at it, but I see it like this: she's happy on the outside, suffering on the inside. Summer on the outside, Winter on the inside. Bloody brilliant.
