Words of Poetry. Terms necessary to produce well written poetry and knowning WHY it is good.

This Week's Word:

enjambement
n : the continuation of one conceit (idea) onto a second line
in order to place emphasis on a certain word or idea within
that conceit.

This is a hard concept for some students of poetry to grasp, expecially when they're so used to breaking lines where there ought to be punctuation. A reader will always place a mental emphasis on a word that ends a line. If that word is particularly significant to the overall meaning of the poem, then the reader will almost undboutedly remember it. Enjambement is a great tool for the poet, but be careful not to over use it or you'll end up sounding like Mr. Will Shatner!

I have a great weakness for rhyming poetry, but can do a killer Hiaku. What do you suggest I do with my rhyming poetry problem?
