Drawing of a girl

Hi!

This was my first attempt at colouring and sketching with photoshop so I was looking for some feedback to see how it went (only the hair and face)

Any advice on hair would be hugely appreciated!

She appears to be missing an arm.

Hmm, nice, very good for a first try. The hair needs some more life to it, though. I'm sure if you search the internet, you'll find PS tutorials on how to make lively hair. As is, it looks like a lump clinging to her head. xD
The upper lip is too flat, real lips have two mountain shape things with a valley between: look in a mirror.
Also, as Momie said, her arm is missing, but not just her arm. Her upper torso, her other arm and her clothes are missing. I'm sure you can whip something up. Did you use multiple layers?

@Jenthura: Yes, billions of layers.. I found that they are veeeery useful ^^" I only wanted to do the head because i thought that would be the hardest bit to learn to colour! I'll look up some tutorials for help; thank you very much

hey, I'd have to agree with what was said before about the hair and lips, but I do like the lighting on the eyes, and the eyes in general!

This is your first try?! O_O Wow. Seriously, this is an awesome start. You should see some of my first drawings from a few months ago x) All I can say is that buying a tablet has helped me improve MASSIVLY. You'll be able to make some truely great work if you just keep at it.

Now onto the review!
Hair: I love all the different shades in this, they all look very natural together. For the most part, I think you've got the highlighting and shading down, but I think that the top of her ahri is too dark. I see that you were trying to shade where her hair parts, but the darkness bleeds out further than it should. I think that the highlights should find their way up there somehow. Whenever I draw hair, I make the top of the head considerably light, but that's just a personal choice of mine, and this is done in a very different style so I don't know if it still applies x)

It looks like you've had a little trouble with the left side of her face, and how her hair forms around that too. It seems like her hair clings naturally close to her close, but her bangs should be a little less flat and pull away her forhead a bit more. Think of making them a bit fluffier After all, she's got nice volume with the rest of her hair.

Face:
Beautiful shading with her eyes and LIPS. The lips look epicially lovely to me. The color of her skin is a little plain, but I am no expert at that so all I can say is pay attention to reference. The placement of her eyes, nose, and mouth seem a bit off. My advice to that is
If you're doing your own style- go with your instincts. I always mess up if I use reference for these features; they just never match up with the rest of my drawing.
Doing it from life- pay special attention to reference. Get every nook and cranny of the face right on.

I do like it, you have a very good talent for using... photoshop. Well done, though. At first I thought you drawn it by hand, but this is just as good.

*is in awe* I'm hopeless with a mouse. This amazes me. I have some critiques, but be aware I was sort of like "This is amazing!" for a bit...
Oh, and I most definitely need Photoshop. Badly. (Paint is the root of all evil.) This proved it.

1. I agree with the mouth thing. Try looking at photos of women of the ethnicity you want, and go from there. (I was hugely disturbed when I searched 'Asian women' when trying my hand at manga, though, so watch out. What has been seen...) Books on anatomy and drawing the human form, books by Jack Hamm for instance, can be wildly helpful as well.

2. I also agree with the root thing. Mostly people get 'halos' on their heads about there, a circle of light to show the gleam of their hair. Try and watch for those--then try and copy.

3. There needs to be not only eyebrows in this equation, but lines to show the eyelid. I suggest messing with them and seeing what you can do.

4. I suggest some shading on the face--shadows where the hair hangs--as well as highlights, and a faint blush to the cheeks, etc.

5. Lastly, the hair part is a bit too high up on her face. ...Or maybe she just as a high forehead.

Otherwise, I really liked the eyes--color and everything else, the highlights on the mouth, the shape and tilt of the head, and the general hair color's all over correctness. *tips hat to you* Excellent job.
