I love this book but....

Ok, so the book I really love is the set by Jean M. Auel, 'The Clan of the Cavebear' and it's sequels... BUT... too much description!! The story line is excellent, I love the ideas, even the description I like, but too much... for me, just a line with splendid words would do... but a whole 4 pages of country side! Nu huh not for me..

So, any books y'all have read but said 'but....' ?

"Sprig Muslin" by Georgette Heyer, just like your book, it had a great storyline and was sooo entertaining, but the end was NOT satisfactory I was so disappointed that I went straight to my computer and wrote up the end as I thought it should be- that made me feel a little better...

Hey, I totally agree with you on that one. I have all the five books of Jean M. Auel, and although I claim to have read them all, in real sense, I just flipped over all the pages describing daily living, plants, landscape..etc. A bit too archaeological and anthropological!

I loved reading Coming to Birth by Marjorie Macgoye but the book is too descriptive sometimes and although it is less than 200 pages long, it has this quality about it that makes you drag along while reading it so that it feels more like a chore than leisure. I loved it but....

The Redwall series. I absolutely adore them, they are amazing, BUT ...
... two things. Firstly, the same basic plotline is repeated a lot.
"Oh, no! An evil rat and his horde are planning on taking on Redwall Abbey! We shall send a band of courageous animals to head them off! Whilst they are away, we shall be attacked by a band of vicious ravens or snakes or brigand weasels and uncover a mystery, the solving of which includes riddles and baby animals discovering a secret by accident and much, much danger! Then the evil rat and his horde shall come to the Abbey and we shall be besieged, but we shall win because we always do, even against all odds!"
Basically, that is repeated over and over again in many different forms. Obviously, they're all different, and some of them aren't like this at all, but the repetitiveness does get annoying after a while.
Also, I don't agree with some of the moral values. The way the books end almost always give a sense that revenge is wise and is justified - the character gets his own back and bad guys get their comeuppance - and I feel a lack of characters who are merciful. It's all 'The joy of battle' and 'I shall avenge you!' and no 'War is stupid and pointless and tragic' or 'Forget and forgive'.
Those are the only things I find annoying. Otherwise, I shall go back to praising Redwall's pure awesomeness.

A great and terrible beauty....I LOVE the story line...But in the last book bad stuff happens to the characters, people die and its so sad!! But the big thing wrong was it, in the second book so much stuff was confusing it was hard to read

I hate it when good books turns out badly, or the plot wasn't what we pictured it to be.. It makes me feel down after having read that kind of book.

I do exactly that when I'm disappointed (:
