Hi, I'm new to the site and I would love it if anyone could get me started on some things to do here? Also, are there any works on the site you would recommend for me to read? I'm a huge fan of reading and can't wait to start talking with people who share my enthusiasm!
I'm old and would love to welcome you. So, a warm welcome from me. There is a list of Featured Works on the front page that you might get started reading.

Welcome to YWS, it's fun place to be around. You have loads of things to do, and I seriously mean a lot. You can start reading random pieces, leaving comments and then that's how you'll get friends. If not that, you could ask people to post on your Will Review for Food column for reviews, and they'll come to you, rather you going to them. I am here if you need me, and there's nothing like making a new YWS friend for me. So just drop in a PM. I'll be more than happy to help. Just go on and ask me whatever you wish to ask. I'll try to be of some help.
You'd also start following people so you get to know them better.

Hey! Welcome! I'm iheartbooks and I really love books, so you must know you're in the right place if you also really love books. First off, any questions, like Shrubbery said, just PM anyone really. I mean, all of the people on this website are nicer than heck and would love to answer anyones question. So really, don't be like me and try to navigate your own way around the website, it will not work! But I think I've got it down by now. Next on the list, suggestions. It really depends on what you like. I followed Skins for a while because they had "A Shot of Arrogance" which I liked to read. The featured are really good to rread too. And of course, if you're up to it, you can always read my stuff =] One other thing I might try if I were you, if you like fantasy or mysteries or something, you can probably go to "Clubs" there at the top and see if they have any clubs for those kinds of things. The people who have joined probably write that kind of stuff and you can read some of theirs. And depending on what you like, if it's poetry, I would try to check out... Personephe, I don't know if I got that name right, but they've got some good stuff. Anything else, feel free to PM me, seriously. -iheartbooks ♥

I have a novel in the works if you want to read those, plus I'm a poet as well. Welcome. This site is quite awesome but I can't help as I am new myself. You should get an email from some one that runs this place. They are really helpful and nice And welcome you accordingly. Just start writing and critiquing and you should have a good amount of helpful friends in no time flat. Looks like you already have quite a few
There's a lot of works that you'd probably enjoy reading, and feel free to leave a few comments. A lot of good story ideas are hovering around the forums, so you'd be well-entertained.
Do you write anything yourself? We would love to read your work since you're so willing to read ours. ^_^
What do you like to read? Do you have a favorite genre? I tend to go for fantasy, but some books outside that genre have been wonderful reads! What are your favorite books, or do you recommend any?
I'm happy to have met you here at YWS! It sounds like you're finding your own way around just fine, but if you have any questions at all, you can ask almost anyone here. I'd be more than willing to assist as well. See you around!
As to recommending stories, well ... there are an abundance of good stories to read! You can always check out the Featured Works on the front page, but you may find that some days it's just full of poetry!
If you really are a huge fan of reading, why not check out the Reviews forum and post up a review of your favourite books.
Also, if you're interested, a the moment a few YWSers, myself included, are taking part in the '100 books in a year' challenge. If you'd care to join us, take a look here!
There's loads to get stuck into at YWS. If you're not comfortable with posting your works now, then you can simply read and review. Or, go full out and post up a couple of stories for people to critique.
Feel free to PM me with any questions, I'm always happy to help!
See you around.
