There was a knock upon the door,
repeated twice to implore
if I was ever coming out again,
and to please, let the knocker in.
As if last time I'd turned the key,
like anyone would if lonely,
the handle hadn't scorched and burned
my fingers while their laughter spurned.
Too wise to fall for dirty schemes
I wrapped around me wistful dreams
of a room with no hatches, latches or doors
and no people with insecurities to compensate for.
