Random Portrait

So, I used a different type of shading than normal just as an experiment. Now, I know that parts of it are lopsided and the lips look a little weird (okay, really weird) but I kinda like it. And, please keep in mind that this was done during one class, where I was taking notes off and on.

I can tell all of this was done with a ball point pen.
*I liked that how you used curved lines and scribbles to fill in his face.
*I like the expression on his face, like the deer in head lights look. Like he was caught in the flash of a photo.
*I like how he isnt black or white that he doesnt have a certain identity.
*I like how mysterious this drawing is.
You could add hair or something and go back and work on his eyes and nose, and the shap of his head. Other than that I do like it. Keep drawing.

This is really great. Personally I usually suck at drawing with pens, I'm a pencil person.

The lips aren't really that bad. What I did notice though were how round the cheeks were even though he wasn't smiling, and how the nostrils are, as you said some things were, a little lopsided. The eye corners are also different shapes, so that's a little strange too. But I really like this, the detail is very nice.

rememberme mentioned that the man didn't look either black or white. Personally, judging from his lips, type of nose and shading, I get the impression that he is black. But this doesn't matter anyway.

I commend you for sketching such a beautiful portrait in pen! For some reason, it's impossible for me to use pens. I don't know why. I just have to use pencils for shading. However, you seem to have mastered the art (no pun intended) of shading simply by condensing your lines. The whole portrait is shaded with the same amount of darkness, if that makes any sense.

Nitpicks:

His cheekbones are a bit pronounced. I mean really pronounced. I mean kinda Michael Jackson pronounced. (I love MJ's music, but it's undeniable that he wasn't the most handsome guy at the end.)

Proportions. GAH! Sorry, this happens to me all the time. Eyeballs. are. in. forehead. Technically speaking, eyes should be halfway down a person's face. I wonder what it is that makes us so likely to throw the eyes up into the forehead. Don't worry, it's nothing personal; you can check my sketchpad and a good three-fourths of the portraits have incorrect proportions. It's just weird that we all make that same mistake.

Everthing is very rounded and shaped. My portraits can get very flat, but yours have great depth. I feel like I can practically run my fingers over his nose or beat him at a staring contest.

Amazing. It could use some touch-ups, but here's a round of applause!
