Something that happened to me today.
For the most part, I suppose I’m similar to all teenagers in the search for young love. It’s something that’s treasured in pop culture and we see our peers within it every weekday. In a number of ways it’s a ridiculous notion; a girl falls in love with a pimple faced jock only to be heartbroken in an exaggerated story that you compare the rest of your love life towards. But when your within it you can see the happiness. Before the end and the beginning is the body of the story, which is surely the most memorable part of it all.
As usual these thoughts were dancing in my head as I walked down the populated sunny midday Robson Street. Like most trips I take, I looked around and liked all that I saw. The plants were bright and light reflected off the cars, and although the putrid smoke was coming off of many civilians they all were happy and living lives with a goal. And as usual, I also noticed the couples wandering around, happy and together and chatting and enjoying the day.
But the thing that stood out the most of these paired relationships was one couple I was walking behind featuring the couple both in blue clothes, the boy wearing darker and the girl wearing light. The boy had a hat on his head, and an arm around the girl he adored. They were both somewhat short and I presumed young, and I heard only portions of the words they were saying. They obviously liked each other plenty, and it was a heck of a sight. It made me want my desires even more, but it made me smile while doing it, while others made me frown. Something about this couple just made me cheery and optimistic, and why they did, I’m uncertain. Maybe the matching blue clothes were what did it. Nonetheless, it seemed to do well, and it made for a happy few moments.
I wanted to see their faces that I guessed were smiling, so I upped my walking speed and took a glance behind. And although the faces were smiling, an odder sight stood out…they were younger than young; they looked around 10. And I kept my faster pace and widened my eyes to myself. Really?, I wondered, Really? A couple this young? And although I can’t deny their happiness, I can predict highly that it will not last, and when it disappears it’ll be gone sooner than my age usually pulls off. And as sorry for them as I are, it’s probably not bound to last. And lasting one relationship that I want longer than those kids is a dream that feels closer to reach.
