I gaped at the space where my stairs should be. It was empty. No trace, just a wall, a blank white wall that went all the way up, up, and up. Never stopping. I blinked. This had to be a dream, and turned around, the kitchen had disappeared, and in its place was blank space, and another white wall.
I was surrounded by white. My eyes started to burn.
"Hello?!" I cried out. My hysteria was starting to build. I had to get out of here. I turned again, in a circle, all there was was light. A burning light, that was scorching my eyes. Quickly, I closed them.
"Hello!?" I called out.
It didn't echo or anything. It was like the white had swallowed up my words. Soaked them up as I spoke them.
I wanted to scream, or do something, but it didn't seem like anything was working. All the yelling was pointless. A numbness started spreading through my limbs, taking me by surprise.
Shaking if off didn't work, it was like I didn't have a body anymore. I was lost. The urge to scream built, but I couldn't. That had been taken.
I couldn't open my eyes, surrounded by blackness instead of white.
Then the hysteria stopped, and an overwhelming calm descended on me. This was it I had officially cracked. The darkness started to blur, like I had my eyes open, but did I?
Lights of different color were shining through the emptiness.
The black faded altogether and in front of me was a man. A man in the white room.
"About time." he grumbled. I stared. A black man in a white suit stood in front of me. Middle-aged I think, but he had a timeless look, he was tall, and I had to look up to him.
"Are you God?" I asked. In the back of my mind I remembered those movies where Morgan Freeman played God. This dude wasn't a far throw away from being his twin.
The man laughed, but it wasn't a relaxing sound.
"Am I God? No. I wish, but no. You teenagers really do watch too much t.v"
I sighed, at least he had a sense of humor. But where was I? If he wasn't God, who was he?
"Who are you?" I asked.
"Good question, but really, you're the one who's invaded my space, who are you?"
I blinked confused. No way did I come here on purpose. What kind of man lived here?
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Of course you don't. Why would you. No one comes to see the Overseer on purpose." He grumbled, "I wish you Oracles would just leave me alone. It's enough that you neglect me, and I still have to help you."
"What?" I asked. Did he just call me an oracle. Oracles were...I dug in my brain. People who Ancient Greeks believed could talk to gods, and tell the future.
Who was this nut-case. This was definitely a dream. What a crazy night. Now; how to wake up. Maybe I'd just have to play along until I did.
"You know your own kind. Can see the future by delving into the White. Greeks thought you communicated with the gods. Hunted as witches?" He continued for a bit, but by my blank stare he realized I didn't know.
"You really don't know. HUH. I haven't sensed any of your kind for a while. Why's that?" he asked me.
"I don't know?" I asked. The quicker I woke up, the better.
"Something must of happened," he stared to murmur to himself. "Who's your mom kid?"
I looked at him for a second.
"I don't know. I'm from an orphanage in London." I replied. After a second I realized what I had told him. Why? This figment of my imagination. Why'd I tell him...
"Really?" he asked excited, "Hmm... Baites was from London. Looks a little like you..."
"Who?" I asked. Baites? Was that my mom? I shook my head, this was just my subconscious doing a number on me. There was no Baites.
"Yeah, you know Baites, one of the best Oracles. People said she saw years into the future. Never knew what happened to her..." he trailed off.
"Who else do you know?" I let out. What was I doing, this was a dream. Wasn't it? Why did it feel so real. I really wanted to know. Did this man have the answers? Was it real. No I couldn't think that, that's how people go crazy.
"Oh, anyone. Any Oracle that goes into the White."
"What's the White you keep talking about?" I asked.
"You don't know? Something really must be wrong." He stopped.
"Huh?" The room shook.
"Hey!" I yelled.
"What the--" The man disappeared. I blinked. In his place was a ball, A glass ball. And a note. I stooped down to read it.
Not a dream.
Come.
~T.L.O
Come.
~T.L.O
I frowned. "Not a dream?" Of course it as a dream. And a heck of one too.
Or was it? I shook my head. No way, this was not happening. I closed my eyes. I as not going crazy. This was a dream, I was going to wake up and my parents would give me some warm milk and tell me to go back to sleep.
I pinched myself, it hurt, but I didn't wake up.
Part of the dream, I told myself. Though a part of me was beginning to doubt it. I looked to the orb that lay with the note.
Did I want to touch it? No. Yes. My curiosity got the best of me. I picked up, but the second I did, the floor disappeared and I fell through.
