Killer Crustaceans

I fell in love once in my life. But the bitch about love is that all those stories you read when you’re a kid about a prince saving his princess are all lies. It doesn’t work that way. Well, at least not for me.
I love my best friend; the sad part is she lives far away. Well, if you want to get into specifics that’s probably the happiest part of our relationship. She’s 17 years old and has heart problems and cancer. Most teenagers have to deal with grandparents with cancer, but her? Naw life’s not that easy.
Frankly, I don’t know if she loves me or not. And I don’t know if she knows how I feel.
It’s like this: We meet and we instantly click. A month into talking to each other, she tells me, oh hey, PS Mack I got cancer. Well, not quite that blunt, but you know what I mean.
It’s the best and worst feeling in the world. Love that is. It can cause great joy but greater pain.
My favourite movie ever was American Beauty. I love it though because at the end the one girl gets heartbroken while her best friend is in love. I like it because it’s how the world works and there’s no false hope.
Big romantic gestures work in theory but rarely in execution. I tried incredibly hard to visit her on New Year’s Eve but it didn’t work. Fate just has a thing about never working out like you want it to. And when you do go out on a limb fate comes back and kicks you down.
The long and short of it is this: Love works maybe 3 out of 10 times, max. The fact is, in your life, you’re gonna have to get used to unrequited love. So the easiest way to deal with it is to get over it. As hard as that may be.
