So I have wanted to write a fantasy book for ages. My 1st book wasn't fantasy though i stupidly put it in this forum. anyone have any reviews for it? i know there is loads of swearing but well if you actually knew me you'd be saying "why isn't there more swearing?"...
Anyway I've been thinking over the last few weeks what fantasy to write about but I haven't really thought hard into it.
My ideal fantasy book is full out epic battles, kings, dragons, magical creatures, planning attacks, the whole mix.
Now just two mins ago while watching the office lol I thought maybe I should do sci fi and fantasy in one. First third of the book will be the fantasy world 2nd 3rd will be the sci fi world than the 3rd third will bring them together somehow. I plan for it to be adultish but serious so not much swearing but I already have it in mind right now that I want to describe a dragon flying in space and dying there.... don't ask me why <_<
Just thought I'd post here for some critique on my idea and to ask if sci fi and fantasy has ever been mixed like fantasy world and sci fi world :). I plan to start planning it out during my time at the gym. Finally joined one and while I job hunt I plan to live there :P
Thanks

Hey! I wanted you to know that sci-fi and fantasy have been mixed and it turned out really good, I thought. There's a series about these alternate versions of the same world. In one, called Phaze, there's all sorts of magic and such (like unicorns and wizards and things). The other version of the world is Proton and its all science, futuristic and robots and stuff. Eventually, a few characters travel back and forth between the worlds, bringing the two stories together.
About judging an idea...I think that's really hard to do. If you want to do something, like combine sci-fi and fantasy, then by all means go ahead. Its not done that often so you don't have to worry about cliches or anything.
I would love to read your story so feel free to pm me when/if you post it.
(Hope this helps...it doesnt feel very helpfull...)
I go to seek a Great Perhaps...

Thanks for the reply. I don't really have much of a plan yet.
The first thing I've done is written a list of things I want in the book and what they are there and than im gonna build up from there. I could post the list if you want?
speaking of cliches I dont really intend on cliching it though my biggest influence on the fantasy part atm is dragonforce <_< lets just say the song "revolution deathsquad" was the main reason ive decided to write this book. But I will actually shoot myself if, during a quest, someone hangs off a cliff and its a big bla bla scene... I'm definitly not doing that and if it ever becomes a movie and hollywood puts a scene like that in it ill probably blow up the studio :P
I'll also add, which is on the list, that main characters arent safe. no one is immortal in this book.... the big hero we all grow to love could end up with an arrow in his head during a battle and is not mentioned again or maybe during a funeral.... thats if anyone on his side is alive after the battle ;) :)

I love that last part you said about the main characters not being safe. It's so annoying when you can pick out who's going to survive and die from the beggining. Killing off the ones the reader least expects is brilliant. Although it can make you feel guilty. I feel sorry for my main character's girlfriend becasue I'm going to put her in a realy nasty predicament and the main character will have to kill her. Then again, she could kill the main character. Now there's a nice twist.

Sounds good though. I like the idea of mixing sci-fi and fantasy. And planning at the gym is a good idea. I get all my good ideas whilst doing repetitive physical exercise. Just don't forget good ideas before you get to write them down. That's really annoying.
Q: Where do you go to buy shoes?

A: At the shoez canal, lol.

oh i agree i hate when a hero always has to live its just gets boring sometimes.... anyway heres all my ideas that ive written down
i set it out as said in my last reply i set it out as everything i want in the book and what not to do etc than im gonna put it all together as youll see still havent even havent got the name for the worlds in the book. enjoy. also youll notice i have put that im not gonna do a big ass wizard who is powerful and main enemy bla bla i hate that shit i want a good story where, as i said, no one is safe! oh and sorry bout the bad punctuation in my notes.... i just jot them down without worrying about writing it out good :P

"fantasy world what is it called

first point to mention make the book fucking huge and epic or maybe 2 books and dont focus on just one king. make it like a whole world full of kingdoms some allies some enemies some netural and if someone is netural and doesnt help someone add them into the conflict or just have them be randomly attacked. start the war in the book as said below dont do like a back story with amazing wars bla bla bla from 2000 years ago make this the war and story that is told 2000 years later
MAKE SURE THERE IS A CASTLE BATTLE
and also do one where there is an attack on multiple castles or towns, probably netural, all at the same time which may wipe out all of the people
do a cliche type quest but not too cliche and dont do the usual bla bla hanging on cliff bullshit and make it interesting
dragons... what types of dragons?
fire dragons of course but have their own area in the world but maybe add all the dragons to battles but no people riding on them as dragons will be just like humans just as dragons
ice dragons that thrive on water instead of fire and shoot ice out
desert dragons that shoot out sand
forest dragons that are fire dragons
water dragons
think of more
not all dragons are bad but not all are good

MUST HAVE ICE CONTINENT
fairies what types of fairies
fairies that are actually human size
mini fairies
put both big and small fairies into the types below
fire fairies put in the fire dragons land
water fairies
ice fairies
desert fairies
forest fairies
not all fairies are bad but not all are good

elves what types of elves
fire elves
forest elves
water elves
desert elves
ice elves
types of elves that the fairies and dragons are
not all evles are bad but not all are good

wizards what types of wizards

DONT DO A BAD WIZARD THAT IS THE ENEMY DONT DO A HERO WIZARD just add them to battles or as a guide but not as some overly powerful bullshit where hes the main baddie bla bla that ruins the fucking story. no main baddie. just let it progress out....

knights what types of knights like what classes etc

kings how many kings

castles how many castles

queens
dwarfs what types of dwarfs

castles with secret hiding places and secret doors. where do they go to and what do they hide

epic battles how many and who fights who

towns how many maybe draw a map of world

cities draw a map
quests to do what and where and who
giants what types of giants

random creatures how many creatures and what types
start it out like its fresh so no big war 2000 years ago bla bla bla..... the story will be the war of 2000 years ago

main characters can and will die make sure of that shit no one is immortal. like the big hero we've all grown to love can get an arrow in the head during a battle and be forgotten for the rest of the story..... unless there is a funeral and thats even if his city remains after a battle.

there are no immortals in any world NO IMMORTALS that there is cheating

sci fi world
make sure have scene in 3rd part dragon dies in space and make the dragon as a main character in the story and when he dies just kill him like he was nothing!!!!!
space stations
random planets with random creatures
try and mix it in with tylon and the other worlds if not than thats fine but try
