Vrykun dodged and rolled away as a heavy steel axe slashed down in the place that his head had been just a few milliseconds before. An 8ft tall, green skinned monster wielded the axe, the trolls had named them orcs after the sound they make when a troll spear goes straight through their throat. Orcs, Vrykun thought, strong, but stupid. The troll scrambled to his feet and launched his spear into his opposer’s torso, as it turned to make another charge. This seemed to be little more than a flesh wound to the orc as it completed its turn unfazed. “Damn it!” Vrykun swore angrily before quickly reaching for one of his throwing axes strapped around his back, He aimed it carefully at the orc before catapulting it directly at the brute’s forehead. It struck and stayed there, however the orc kept coming, it seemed as if it wouldn’t stop, but the troll just stood there with a knowing look in his glaring red eyes. Then, all of a sudden the orcs’ eyes went blank and rolled backwards in his head. It tripped and fell to the ground, directly in front of Vrykun’s feet.
“Great” Vrykun said to himself as he recovered his weapons “That took way longer then normal, if I keep going at this pace I’ll never have enough time to defeat the Shadow Warrior and free the orcs from his mental grip”. The axe made a squelching sound as he recovered it from the orcs brain. He called his riding raptor out from behind the bushes in which it was concealed, climbed up on top of it and sped off toward the river.
When they arrived at the river he dismounted and began cleaning his weapons as his raptor began drinking from the clean spring water. Vrykun heard the soft gurgling and the crashing of the waterfalls upriver and thought about how far he had come. He stared at himself in the water and had a good long look at himself, he saw a blue skinned, armour clad and wild haired killing machine, that was all I am thought Vrykun, a tool, to be used by kings and anyone with authority over him. His hard leather armour was scratched and frayed, but the steel plate over his heart remained solid, except that chunk missing from it when an arrow had almost killed him. His dark green hair with streaks of light green at the end was specked with blood. He, like any other forest troll had tusks that protruded from his mouth, gangly, yet lean arms and legs and a hunched over look.
He looked over at his faithful companion, his raptor, it was the finest of its generation, with the largest horns, most powerful legs, the raptor was adorned with red and blue feathers, which tied in perfectly with his blue and orange skin. The ornamental and sacred feathers were ceremonial for any war hero’s steed. Vrykun decided to name his only companion Streak, after the legendary god of raptors, since constantly referring to him as ‘The raptor’ seemed impolite. He laughed at himself then, if the people back home knew that I just named a raptor, I would be called crazy.
He cast one final look at the surrounding countryside, its rolling hills, gushing rivers and far – off mountains before getting onto streak again and setting out with all haste towards the darkness in the far north.
He had just reached the foot of the mountain when he noticed a tiny bit of movement in the corner of his eye, normally he would’ve assumed it to be a rabbit or some other small mammal. But because he was in the Shadow Warrior’s territory he wasn’t taking any chances. He spun round and hurled his spear toward the disturbance. An invisible shield must’ve been in place because the spear stopped suddenly and clattered to the ground. An elf stepped out of the bushes, she said “Halt your attacks blue one for we share a common enemy”. The elf said all that rather calmly for someone whom; a mere 10 seconds ago had almost been impaled on a spear. It was wearing a green and black outfit made from mainly hard leather and some chainmail armour underneath. She was tall, almost as tall as Vrykun himself and her skin was tinted with purple. She wore no helmet and let her long, leaf-green hair flow in the wind. Elves were magical, they knew spells for everything, from killing to chopping down a tree, it was all there. This of course earned them a reputation for power and deadliness, however they never set foot outside their own lands or invaded anywhere else, though the would fiercely defend their forests if they felt even the slightest bit of fear among the trees. Yes, they can sense trees’ feelings too. They’re a weird bunch.
“ My name is Tyrathal Eythermitore and I am the high priestess of the night elf tribe known as Arkeneplith, the name means ‘Mages of the forest’. Vrykun told her about himself and about his quest, apparently she was out to achieve the same thing. The troll and the elf, unlikely allies sat around the campfire and planned their attack on the mountain.
Unbeknownst to them, the very person they intended to defeat was watching them from his balcony at the peak of the mountain. “Plan all you like mortals, for you will never have the strength to halt the purification of this world”.
