hello

hi all!

i'm new here, still figuring things out. i'll start out with an "i'm sorry" before i even break any rules, since i probably will before i get things together.

i'm pretty excited about this, though!

You have a right to be excited, this site is awesome!
Ok, so you don't break the most important rules, I'll give you a run down:
1) DONT SPEAK LIKE THIS or lyk dis sistarrr!!!!!!!! This is a writing site after all!

2) Rate your work, if you post a story of a poem that involves the f word or adult content, make sure you rate it R.

3) There is a 2:1 ratio on the site, you need to do two reviews for every piece of work you post - keeps everything moving nicely. Bear in mind, the ratio will go up to 3:1 in October, 4:1 in November and 5:1 in December, so better start reviewing! Just to clear this up, to review, you view someone's work and click reply. There's been some confusion about that.

4) Keep the swearing to your stories. Basically, be nice!

If you keep to those rules, you should be fine!

Okay, I think I might remember all that.

Um, about me. I read a lot, both novels and poetry. At least with novels, and sometimes poetry, I tend to lean towards the more obscure and classics. I write poetry, mostly just for myself, but I've lately started sharing a little bit of it. My favorite to write (actually, pretty much all I write) is free-form. Reading-wise, I don't really have a favorite. I tend to like historical novels. and I love reading little kids books. My favorite poet at the moment is Khalil Gibran, and I don't have a favorite novelist right now.

If I went to a desert island:

3 books - a magical notebook that never ran out of pages, and fixed all my spelling mistakes for me; The complete works of Khalil Gibran; and a dictionary. That way I'd never get bored and I'd have a whole new vocabulary to write with.

3 misc items - a laptop with solar power and satellite internet; my viola (that's *not* a big violin, it's a different instrument! ); and a neverending bottle of sunscreen. I'm really white

eat/drink - I'd eat the moonlight, drink the starlight, and sleep during the day.

I love writing poetry! And you should definitly share it - you'll get some great reviews on here.
I haven't heard of Khalil Gibran, but I don't read much poetry, just stuff I think is really good.
And a never ending notebook ... good idea! But, I noticed a flaw in your awesome desert island plan. You have no pen! One of your misc. items might have to go ... xD
And your food is interesting, might have to try it sometime!

Hey Starlit! Great to have you on board the YWS team! So, you like poetry? Khalil Gibran... always makes me think of my friend's brother, named Gibran. Goofy kid, but sometimes more mature than his older sister. >.> And I always think of the Kite Runner when I hear his name. It takes me a while to associate his name with poetry.

You can play viola? I'm still on violin. Although it is 3/4 now; I might have to change to a viola next year. Can you do vibrato? Among my friends, vibrato is the Holy Grail of violin playing.

Yep, I play viola. I did start on the violin, but I'm completely given over to viola now, though I do fiddle around with piano and guitar. Yes, I can do vibrato. Really, you just need to keep working till your teacher thinks you can learn it (and if you're not taking private lessons, you probably should). Depending on the technique you use to learn it, it'll be really hard at first cause it doesn't sound good, but it catches on quickly.

*shudders* I have horrible memories of playing the violin. I epic sucked, mainly because I never practiced.

Welcome, though. I've seen you around the site a little bit, and I think your username's really pretty, so I thought I'd drop by. Hi! I go by Jet, and I might end up reviewing your prose one day, if you write prose. Do you write prose? And I see you like historical fiction? Me too! What era? I lean towards World War II myself.

That was the most hyper post I've ever made, and I keep making typos. Honestly, I'm usually calmer.
