Nice to meet you guys. =) My name is Lucinda.
I found this place looking at a Writer's Digest article. (Did you know you guys made the top 100 sites for writers? It looks like they know what they're talking about at WD.)

So, a little bit about me:
I'm writing a historical fiction novel, or revising to be more exact. Draft two, baby!
I *adore* the Artemis Fowl series, and have to admit I have a huge crush on that charming supergenius.
All Disney movies from the 90's are my love. Tarzan, Lion King, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame are all amazing.

I hope I'm able to get to know you guys. ^^

Hey Lucinda!
Welcome to Young Writers Society! Looks like you've come to the right place. Just a few guidelines you should know to help you out:

~The 2:1 ratio. Well, this is probably the most important rule on the site. It helps keep balance between the reviewing and posting, so make sure you have at least two reviews before submitting anything on the site.

~Please be kind, respectful, and courteous to your writing peers. Common courtesy, you know all that. If someone signs your guestbook, you sign back. If someone reviews your work it would be kind of you to review theirs.

~Don't take reviews personally. Everyone is trying to help you improve in your writing, so they have good intentions. If they're being straight out mean, please PM a Moderator.

~Don't use chat-speak or CAPs. DON'T TALK LIKE THIS nd dnt tk lyk dis. This is a writers' site, so you're expected to write like one. Term abbreviations, like lol, POV, and MC are acceptable.

Have a question? Want a review or need a friend? PM me and I'll be happy to help!

But enough about rules; I'm glad you were able to find the site, you'll fit right in soon enough :smt004 I've read a few of the Artemis Fowl books but never really got into them... maybe I'll check them out again. Hopefully we'll be able to read some of your story Lucinda! Good Luck!

~Dakota

Hey Lucinda! (great name by the way)
I'm Aqua. *waves*

First, I'll tell you a little bit about the colours of names:
Black: Normal YWSers like you and me.
Blue: Greeters. They... greet people!
Purple: Instructors. They are the best reviewers on the site. PM one if you have a piece of work that you want a detailed critique on.
Light Green: Junior Mods, they control certain forums.
Dark Green: Moderators. They look over the whole thing.
Red: Administrators. They are the reason we are up and running. (And why YWS got an awesome new makeover!)
Gold/orange: Distinguished members. They have retired from being a mod.

Ok, so now you know!
Oh, another thing, Dakotak has told you about the 2:1 ratio. On the old site, it was more of a guidline, but now it is strictly enforced. So you cannot post any literary work unless you have a ratio 2:1 or higher. Also, this ratio rule will be rising on the first of every month until December. So, on October 1st the ratio must be 3:1, in November 4:1 and in December 5:1, where it will stay.
Just thought you might find that useful.
Anyway, it's great that you love the site! If you want to get to know people, one of the best ways is to check out the chat room (on the main page).
I love the Artemis Fowl books! Really do! And disney, I always sing The Lion King in the shower :D.
Look forward to seeing you around and reading your work!
Feel free to PM me if you want a review/friend/chat/other!
Bye!
Aqua X

Hi there Lucinda!
Welcome to the wonderful world of YWS!
It's quite a colourful place.

The red names are our fabulous Admins! Mesh, Jack, Bobo and the one and only Nate (the webmster)

The orange names are the Distinguished Members. These people (Usually retired mods) don't have as much time to spend on YWS. But they do pop in.

The dark green names are Global mods. They help the admins keep the site running smoothly.
They're all lovable, and not too evil I swear.

The light green names are the Junior Mods. They take care of specfic areas of the site helping the Mods.

The purple/lavender names (whatever colour it is) are the instructor. These guys give the best reviews :O You should see some of these.

The blue names are the greeters. People who spend there time welcoming people like you. Brand new and cute. These people are here to make you feel as welcomed as possible.

Then there are the grey, black names which are regular members! These people are the majority of the site but they can be just as helpful as all the coloured names.

Ask anyone if you need questions and you'll get the hang of this *shiny new* site.

Now away from the sort of boring stuff.
I read one Artemis Fowl book and didn't really enjoy it. But! I will try again!

now as for the Disney movies from the 90's. Totally adore them and agree with you. All the new ones are *mostly* icky. My favourites: The Aristocats, The Lady and the Tramp, Pocahontas and... *shhh* Snow White.

Have fun dear! As much fun as humanly possible! PM with any questions, comment or even if you wanna talk.

Hey Lucinda ^^ Welcome to YWS! I'm Shina, one of the instructor-greeters on the site. It is my job and my pleasure to greet the newbs of YWS.

So... Welcome! Woot!

Looks like all the rules were covered, so I'll introduce you to the crew ^^

:smt029 <--- This is Nate. He rules YWS.

 <--- It's Snoink! The leader of the completely evil plan!

:pirate1: <--- this is Teague, Queen of the Cacti!

:smt035 <--- This is Jared (bigbadbear), but it should be violin.

:smt027 <--- This is Hawkie, she's a super Avatar fan!

:smt013 <--- People from TW sound like this

:smt051 <--- It's Nutty-Senpai! She can fly!

:pirate2: <--- Samuel Garrison, but lest pirate-y and more colonial.

:smt059 <---- Hey look! It's me! Angel's Symphony xD (Shina)

:elephant: <--- This is the dancing elephant. He is often used.

:smt032 <--- This is Mars, she's outta this world.

:smt068 <--- It's Gal (galerius)! The ten-year old girl on YWS who's going to be 11 soon!

:smt061 <--- Stella Thomas! She's just like Dorothy *nods*

:smt026 <--- This is Kamas ^^ One of our very spirited and happy members.

:smt075 <---- this is what happens when the mods catch you with caps, and by "you", I mean everyone with a title below green.

:smt100 <--- Most newbs look like this.

:smt113 <-- This was June (Juniper) on June 29th.

But usually she's working overtime like this ---> :smt024 She tries (and usually succeeds) in making sure everything is reviewed.

:smt050 <---- Meet Rosey, she's the one who owns the color pink on this site and who comes up whenever unicorns are being spoken about.

:smt079 <--- Meet Evi (should have pink hair), one of the younger YWS members like me who seem all nice and friendly...until she reviews you.

:smt117 <---- This is Jabbs (jabberhut), just imagine this smilie without the smile guy and the chicken, and you've got a hut!

:smt034 <---- Meet Linx. She does the the YWS news.

:smt106 <---- This is Demi (demeter), she's Simba!

:smt064 <--- This is Pork (prokaryote). He's umm... The smilie says it all :P

:smt062 <---- What usually happens during the Purps Vs. Blue wars

:smt022 <--- People before YWS

:smt017 <---- When the new members first get online

:smt006 <---- And then the greeters come and say "hi" to them.

:smt055 :smt040 :smt007 <---- The new members once they get the hang of things

:smt074 <---- And then the instructors come in and shred their work....

:smt089 <---- they end up, like this.

:smt044 <--- And after they realize how much better their work is, like this.

:smt045 Mhmmm, and that's the summary of YWS in smilies.

Any questions? Or are you good to go :smt023

Hope you have an awesome writing experience ^^ Reader's Digest definitely knows what they're talking about.

-Shina
You cannot dream yourself into a character; you must hammer and forge yourself into one.

The writer, when he is also an artist, is someone who admits what others don't dare reveal.
