OK, so this question probably won't make sense unless I explain this novel. I pray this makes sense.
OK, so the prologue of the novel is this girl, Avery, writing a letter to her friend who killed himself. She's basically just asking him why and stuff, though she knows she'll never get an answer. Then, it kind of goes back in time and it's separated into two parts. Part one is the kid who killed himself, Damon's, point of view, first person. It's takes place two months before he killed himself, so the reader does know he kills himself because of the prologue. Then, the second part is in Avery's POV and she's telling about what happens after Damon commits suicide. I pray to God that made sense.
Anyways, so I want to write in past tense, but I don't know if that would make sense, because technically Damon is dead, so he couldn't be telling a story, so I was thinking present tense for him, but then I figured I'd have to write Avery's part in present, too. So, my question is I guess: What should I do, should I write the whole thing in present tense? Or could I write Damon's part in past tense and make the whole thing past tense? Even though I don't think writing Damon's part in past tense would make sense because he's going to be dead, the reader knows, and dead people can't tell stories. Or, should I write Damon's part in present tense, and Avery's in past? Sorry if that was confusing, I tried to make it clear, I hope it worked. This is a novel I've always wanted to do, so I really need help.
