This is not my best work. I wrote it in half an hour in my creative writing class when we were focusing on indirect characterization.

The tinkling sound coming form the door alerted Amy that someone had entered the diner. She looked over her shoulder while still making the coffee to see who it was.
“Oh hey, Danny. Haven’t seen you in a while,” she said with a smile. “You want your usual, right?” She grabbed a mug from one of the rings above the stove and took it with her along with the freshly filled coffee pot over to the table by the window. Setting the mug in front of Danny, she filled it with coffee, then added a dash of cream and three-fourths of a packet of sugar, just the way he liked it.
“Hey Amy, you think I could get some sausage instead of bacon today?”
“Sure thing, Danny. I’ll get that going as soon as I clear those tables.” True to her word, she went to one of the booths in the corner and stacked the plates and silverware, then repeated the process with three other tables. She grabbed a tray, piled the stacks on top, then headed back behind the counter and dropped the dishes in the sink. The phone rang as Amy began whisking the eggs for Danny’s omelet, and she skillfully managed to get the receiver off its place in the wall with just her shoulder.
“Dorothy’s Diner, Amy speaking, how may I help you?” she asked the caller. Peppers and onions were now thrown into the bowl containing the eggs. She listened as the person spoke, trying to make sure table six’s toast didn’t burn. “We typically don’t do takeout…but I guess that would be alright. What did you want again?”
As she took down the order, a young couple with small children entered. She held up one finger to let them know she would be with them in a moment. Placing her pen back in her pocket, she taped the takeout order to the wall. She expertly folded Danny’s omelet in half, plated it with the rest of his food, and brought it over.
“Thanks Amy, you’re the best,” he said when she reached his table. “You know, you really should think about hiring someone else to help you out around here. It would do you some good to relax once in a while.”
“Aw, Danny, where would the fun in that be?” She gave him a wink and headed over to the new customers. “Good morning, folks. My name is Amy, and I’ll be your server and chef today.”
“Hi, Amy,” the man said. The two children made faces at each other across the table. One of them managed to kick the other, and it wasn’t long before wailing filled the diner.
“Why don’t I go see if I have some paper and crayons in the back? Would you guys like that?” The children immediately quieted. Amy went into the storage room in search of crayons and something she could place the take-out orders in.

Hi! I just decided to do some comments today on some stories. Are you planning on adding to this? If so, it needs a plot. Now, I'm not at all sure what will be coming next in this story. However, the writing style is good. Keep up the good work!
