This is a prologue to a story I'm writing. I just wanted to see if anybody found it at all interesting. Please comment if you wish. So read on... (by the way I know there are some grammar errors I tried to fix most of them)
-----------

I chewed on the top of the pen as I waited for the elderly man to finally decide what to order. The only sound I could hear in "Gracie's Diner" was the omnipresent ticking of the clock, counting down every minute of every hour until I could finally leave this place.

"Gracie's Diner," was a replica of a classic sixties diner. It was complete with a jukebox, counter with alternating white and red stools. Even the walls were a checkered white and red. There were small booths fit for four people off the the side. The big windows let in the bright Florida sun.

I questioned why the man couldn't just make up his mind. There weren't all that many choices. Just your classic greasy, overcooked hamburger, or fatty roast beef sandwich. He continued looking at the menu, pushing up his glasses every five second. He grunted, I assumed he was ready to order but was sadly mistaken. I rolled my eyes and sighed heavily. He didn't even notice, I took pity on the poor guy.

I began incessantly tapping on my notepad with the pen waiting for the man to finally decide, his stringy, thin gray hair was styled in a perfect comb-over revealing a small strip of baldness.

"Okay, I think I've decided," he said in a raspy voice, ignoring my rude tapping.

I readied my pen above the notepad and smiled as he took off his glasses. "I'll have the turkey club sandwich," he said taking a sip of his black coffee.

I scribbled it into the notebook and turned to place the order when he beckoned to me, "Could I have some more coffee?" He asked, dangling the empty mug on his ring finger, which to my surprise held a gold wedding band.

I closed my eyes and listened to the clock. Just hold on Leah, only one more hour until you can go home and forget you ever met this guy. I smiled and walked over to him
"Sure," I replied handing the order to Matt, the chef. I grabbed the coffee mug and approached the table. I felt a tap on my shoulder, I turned around to see my always perky best friend, Kayla Louis, standing face to face with me.

"Can I talk to you?" She asked, her dark amber eyes pleading, I didn't know one person who could say no to her. It was like she cast a spell over everyone. I nodded and began to pour the man his coffee.

We sat down in the booth behind him and she started blabbing. "Have you noticed, I don't know, anything off about Chase lately?" She asked quickly glancing around as if my other best friend Chase was standing right next to her.

I pulled my straight red hair over my shoulder. Of course I had, when wasn't there anything off about Chase, he fought with his dad all the time, not to mention smoked when he was only sixteen, god knows how he even got the cigarettes in the first place. Yet, I always felt the need to protect him, he didn't show vulnerability well, and probably wished I didn't defend him all the time, but I did anyways. He was a popular jock, the standard build with shaggy, light brown hair. He was one of the only freshmen to ever be the quarterback on the varsity football team.

"No, I haven't really, I mean not anything to unusual, I mean for Chase." I said slipping on my words slightly.

"You're lying, so you see it too?" She questioned, her voice irritated, her angry eyes boring into me like a nail into wood.

"Look, I'll drive to his house and talk to him, even though I'm almost absolutely positive that it's nothing, on one condition," I said, her face fell slightly. "You take my shift," I said breaking eye contact with her.

"Fine," She said, "But just keep me posted if you find out anything," She said. Walking behind the counter and grabbing a red apron. I tossed mine to her and she put it back.

"Kay, I'm sure it's nothing, you're over exaggerating. You know Chase, he's always got something wrong going on in that head of his," I said assuring.

"I know, but it seems to have escalated after his mom was diagnosed with lung cancer," She said sadly, brushing a blond curl out of her eye. Leave it to Kayla to exagerate about everyone who's life isn't as wonderful as hers. She tended to worry about things that didn't need worrying. I sighed heavily and stared into her eyes.

"I guess...but we'll see what happens," I said walking out of the door.

The hot Florida air surrounded me as I stepped into my old red used 'Volvo'. I started to drive over to Chase's house, without the slightest clue that he was so far of the path to being 'Okay.'

My comments:
It was quite a good attempt. But it failed to 'strike' me. It's just like routine old life, maybe that's what you want people to look at it as, but I think you should've added more imagery, a little more emotion.
Work on those area, bring a little more life into the people.
Besides that, I wonder what's going to happen in the next chapters.

Keep Writing!!

BTW, welcome to YWS. I hope you have fun writing. It's a really nice place for aspiring authors and poets.

Anyway, I see that you've written only 1 review, you need to write 2 before you post your own story. A message pops up saying that you review count has increased by one, indicating that your comments were accepted as a review.

Remember, that the more reviews you give, the more people will review your work. Now that,s what you'd want I'm sure.

Anyways,keep writig,
see you around YWS :)
