The bang of a gun
my soul shudders
as the man beside me falls
war begins.
Bullets
like the fist of God
plunge deep into the hearts of men
figures dropping to the ground
I doubt I’ll see my friends again.
my doubt is given strong conviction-
a flower of red blooms on my chest
pain is gnawing at my sight
the world turns black
I’m blind with fright
and as the sun pulls close the day
as our enemies submit
we wonder- was it worth the loss
of those we loved? I doubt it.
