They say that legend often becomes fact, so before my reputation is completely ruined I want my story to be told. Everyone has blamed me and spat at me for something i didn't do. I never killed her, by the time i had gotten to her she was already dead. It was that husband of hers.
You see i occasionally checked in on them by looking through the window ever sense Megan helped me one day when I was bumming. She was so nice that she gave me ten dollars. I secretly followed her home...to make sure she wasn't mugged or hurt. It was the least I could do for her kind heart.
But this wasn't the last time we would meet face to face, occasionally she would come and visit me in my alleyway where we would talk. Soon we were friends, but apparently her husband wasn't to fond of this. I noticed this one day when I saw the bruise on Megan's face. She explained to me how it wasn't his fault and that she should have known better not to be hanging around guys.
"But not all guys are bad." I protested,"no one else cares about me like you do."
She sympathetically placed her hand on my shoulder and said, "I know but its the way things are going to have to be." She truly was a saccharine girl, but at the same time very foolish as she blindly fawned for her lover and was too conceded to care for people who made relationship anything but perfect.
But I couldn't be thrown out of the picture that easily, oh no, he'd have to kill me entirely to get me out of his life. A week later I saw her alone at the super market and thought i'd drop by to say hello to my friend. We chatted for a while, but the time went by too quickly and soon she had to go.
"I'll walk you home."
"I don't think that's such a good idea," she said uneasily.
"Nonsense, it will be fun." i insisted.
SHe looked at the ground and i felt that something was wrong, after a long pause she began.
"My husband says I can't see you anymore, he doesn't like you."
"What did i do wrong? YOu are my best friend."
"I tried to argue but her grabbed my arm and shook me really hard." She showed me the bruise on her arm.
"I'm really sorry Tom but I can't see you anymore."
I saw her wipe a tear from her eye and then she ran off without saying goodbye.
I never cried so hard, the night was filled with my painful bellows. My only friend was gone forever and there was nothing I could do about it. And all I could think about was why, why was the world so cruel to me?
The day after I followed her home again and witnessed the most painful thing. Megan had moved on, and as I stood outside their window and watched their cruel acts I felt my heart being crushed. I had nothing left.
That evening I went back to my ally where I would give up everything. I then walked into the streets as if I were walking on clouds, I closed my eyes and waited for a car, or a truck, or whatever to come forth and hit me. But before my life was smashed away I heard someone yell my name. I was shoved down and then i heard a loud crash. I opened my eyes and saw her lying there bleeding to death. I picked her up and moved her back to my ally. Her last words were, "Tome, I love you ,don't go." I can still remember them in her sweet voice the way a mother might say it to her son.
She died a few minutes later. That's when her husband found me with her. His voice erupted with so much hate that it hurt me more than his fists. That man took her away from me and i was left in perpetual state of sorrow and pain.
You see it was that man who did it. Any man that cruel shouldn't have a sweet woman like that to beat on. If he had let her stay with me things would be different, cause megan would still be around to show that something in this world love me.
