Time Stands Still
By Angel of Death

Flashback

I felt like a crab in a sea full of kissing fish. Everyone was at the carnival with someone. My best friend, Bree was tagging me along while she tried to have fun with her boyfriend, Gabriel. When they simply brushed their lips together, I brushed, wishing I could experience a kiss. Growing up I never was what the world would call pretty, instead, I was the chubby brown-skinned girl with weird green eyes. When everyone was getting their braces off, I was getting them put on. Life just wasn't my cup of tea back then. Now, as I walked through the halls of Patronage High, boys still didn't pay much attention to me. My mom always would tell me how stunning I was but she probably was just trying to be nice.
"Willow?" Bree called.
Breaking from my thoughts I ran over to Bree who was sitting down beside a cotton candy stand.
"What's up?" I asked, shrugging.
"Well Gabe and I were wondering if you'd watch our stuff while we got on the Ferris Wheel," she explained, looking at the giant Teddy Bear. It was pink with big floppy ears. Gabriel won Bree it in one of those basketball games. I wish I had someone to win me something.
"Sure," I sighed, sitting down.
As if called on cue, Gabriel appeared right next to Bree and off they went into the laughing crowds. I sat, staring at every girl and boy that went by. Some were holding hands and others were giving each other 'the look'. Certainly love was in the air on this fine August evening.
"Can't you break a twenty?" a voice asked, sadly.
"No I'm sorry sir, can't you read the sign?" another voice replied bitterly.
There was silence and then someone plopped down beside me. When I looked over, I almost squealed uncontrollably. It was Denver Scott, Quarterback on our high school's football team. His dark gray eyes smiled at me as I stared blankly at him.
"Do you have change for a twenty I really want to get my..." he started and then a dark shadow fell over us. The smell of roses caressed my nose making me want to sneeze. Standing at 5'0'' was a beautiful brunette with gorgeous brown eyes. This must've been Denver's girlfriend.
"Denny, I've been waiting all day for my cotton candy. What the hell is going on?" she snapped, rolling her eyes.
"Well the guy wouldn't take a twenty and I don't have any ones so..." Denver explained, looking over at me.
The girl looked between me and him and then her eyes began to brighten. Without a warning, she threw her short arms around me and squeezed me tightly. Not knowing what to do I patted her on the back and then we sat like that until she let go.
"Omigosh! I can't believe my lil' bro has finally found a girlfriend. And she is sooo pretty," the girl said, smiling.
This was his sister? I usually thought that brother and sisters had to look something alike if not identical. When I saw David and Scarlet together you could always tell that they were siblings. The fact that Denver's sister thought that we were an item made my stomach flip and turn. I was already getting used to never having a boyfriend and now, when Denver set things straight, I was going to have to hear it out loud for the very first time. So as Denver parted his lips to speak, I clamped my eyes shut and turned away.
"Yeah, I was sorta surprised myself. Cally meet..." Denver retorted, kissing me on the cheek.
The feel of his lips on my skin made my body tingle inside. Even though we weren't connected through the dance of our mouths, I still felt that I could love him. Knowing that he needed some help, I smiled up at Cally and gladly stuck out my hand.
"My name is Willow," I said, shaking her hand
