In short: Mormon girl, highly religious family, wants love, finds love - then what? Written in poetic format.
I generally like disturbing books. If something has a twisted character, an interesting and upsetting plot, then I'm all for it. But I did not like this at all.
I thought this was unexpectedly and unrealistically morbid. It teetered on the edges of happy and depressing the entire novel - had scenic and lovely descriptions of living out west, and then BAM - the horrific ending.
It tricks and violates you, this storyline.
I'm not saying I wanted the main character to have a completely happy ending so she can go off to lala-perfect-dancing-flowers land. But come on, Ellen Hopkins, pick one tragedy! She shoots the readers with three, four, five, six at the end.
It's almost unbearable. And very sick.
